just bad luck at a Best Buy? (1 Viewer)

I was off on Monday, and between a few other questions people had been asking, and a couple of Blu titles I was looking for, I wandered into a local Best Buy.

For whatever reason, I couldn't find either Blu title -- one was a relatively new release (1/25) and the other is probably considered "catalog" by now. Didn't bother me too much; these things happen, and it looked a little bit like the software section had been bombed.

But while I was there, I overheard a clerk giving this huge song-n-dance about the differences between the outragously overpriced HDMI cables that they had on the shelves, rambling far beyond the basics of normal sales-patter, and going off into the realm of chemistry and physics about which he had no clue. Oh, my! That was scary. I didn't know if the "call" that the person he was talking to was real or faked; if I had thought of it, I'd fake receiving a phone call, too!

Then a few minutes later, walking around the LCD TVs, trying to see what was available and the prices for the 32-37" range (someone else's limits,) some other salesdroid was going off on a great long sermon on the importance of a lot of otherwise meaningless features that "went beyond the specs."

Did BB change? Are their sales people now on commission? This was early on a Monday, in an area where some people were still digging out from under a horrific 4-6" snow (central Maryland .) There might have only been the three of us as customers in the store. Or are they that desperate for sales and higher-end sales, that they have to push-push-push?

If I were either of those clients, I'd be out the door in a shot. (As it was, I didn't spend much time looking at the monitors; it was almost physically repulsive being there.)

Well, if I had much spare time on my hands, I'd seriously consider hanging out in a BB and just jumping in anytime a "salesperson" started justifying expensive cables or any of that BS. I wonder how many times I would have to chime in with "facts" before management would ask me to leave.

Unfortunately that is the way they are, they have higher goals to reach even though they may be at the low end of the ladder as in sales. The BB is good otherwise as they are not paid by commissions like their other store namely FS in Canada, FS sales have to perform as they get commission on their sales.

One word of caution, to never buy their extended warranty this is called product service plan aka PSP as if you should need a service under this plan the call center will take details of your invoice as well as the phone number that you may have supplied them at the time of the sale and if either the phone number any area code etc have changed most likely by their typo errors they will make you pay big time as they will not initiate service for you and if they do then they will reserve at their discretion to change the service call without even giving you any reasons, for example you may be told that a service personal will be coming to you between a set time ,there you take time off work and stay at home waiting and only after much time have passed you call the center and ask them if your service man is coming to fix my tv under the extended plan? they will tell you to repeat the whole process again as they just don't have a system that may have a reference # although at the time of your call you may have been given a 6 digit number as a reference and when you give them this ref# they would tell you that we are sorry but the system doesn't show any service calls;(
I will never ever buy anything from either of their stores and if I do then by NO PSP as this is where they make their money and at the same time give you the customer a hassle.

I have had my Samsung TV LNT 4661 for the past 3 weeks waiting for a service call , finally a fellah comes and tells me that it needs a new video pcb, it will be another 60 days before I get the TV repaired

I was visiting a store in Boston a BB store, I was basically waiting for my RR was in the audio bay awaiting for them to access if they will be able to replace an electric antenna along with a powered subwoofer , however inside the store the sales didn't know that our car was being looked after, I was checking various electronics goodies as they differ extensively from BB stores in Canada, I was approached by many sales figures and as I told them that I was just checking out the time frame as to how long it is before I get served, also checking various goods. They didn't bother me much at the time, however I had to ask them a question about how long it will be before my car is ready.. but in the mean time their manager comes to me and tells me to leave the store... which I did as well as I went back to the bay to pick up my car however had to go inside the store to pay for the antenna and the woofer install.. the manager eyed me over and said I thought I had asked you to get lost.. so I said to him that I am just paying for my bill and no sooner did I do that he went to the counter to see what I had purchased... he immediately apologized to me ... sorry we didn't realize that your Rolls was here ... what a bunch;) I wonder what made them see me in a different light?
