Updates in reverse chron order (newest on top):

----and that's it for the live blog, more coming at the end of the thread!--

-No preloaded verizon apps, no verizon branding. That'sa long term win for Apple tho!

-Not commenting on an LTE iPhone availability today

-DEALBREAKER ALERT!!!!! CDMA devices: what happens when you use data and get a phone call. "It's the same experience you get on CDMA devices now" - he's basically saying your data will drop. And everyone using your wireless base station will drop too. Makes it TOTALLY WORTHLESS. EDIT: If Data is active you may be able to send voice calls to voicemail instead of dropping data users. Pick your poison?

-Q: Is the CDMA iPhone exclusive to Verizon?
Tim: It's a multi-year, non exclusive deal.

-Q: Why didn't you go the LTE route?
Tim: Two reasons -- the first gen LTW chipsets force design changes we wouldn't make. And Verizon customers told us they want the iPhone now. I can't tell you the number of times we've been asked 'when will it work on Verizon.'

-Q: Will it be on a one year refresh cycle?
Tim: We don't comment on that.

-WOO nice! $199 for the 16GB, $299 for 32GB -- mobile hotspot included! Up to 5 devices.

-"On February 3rd our existing customers will have an opportunity to pre-order... on February 10th, everyone will be able to order online, in stores, or in Apple stores."

-"I want to spend a minute on how robust our network is. We have designed this network for customers to have an optimum experience. We have been drive testing this on our network. We're now into the thousands of devices, and we could not be more pleased."

-Jason Chen: Exact launch date according to Verizon’s page: Feb. 10.

-confirmed, CDMA NOT LTE.

-Pictures on stage are still showing the deathgrip killer ring around same iPhone 4 design, no apparent new changes to the design

-Tim Cook is introduced and on stage talking up partnership

-Engadget: 11:08AM There you go people. Verizon iPhone 4. It exists.

-And today they're "gratified" to announce that the iPhone 4 will come to Verizon early next month.

-"Today we're partnering with a giant of the industry, and that's Apple." Boom.

-Really pushing LTE, with all the network rebranding they really wanted to call it 6G! (haha!)

-"today two innovators are coming together."

-Boring business update so far

-lowell mcadam: I guess you're expecting a big announcement today. I don't think we'll disappoint. If the press write something long enough, eventually it comes true. We're very very excited about our announcement today."

-Beginning now.

-John Oliver just screamed out: "F* Yeah! Thank you! Thank God!" - Filming a segment

-Engadget: 10:54AM Interesting note -- the screen is white. We're not saying that means anything. But... it could mean something.

-Harry: The vibe is "live bloggers setting up their laptops and verifying that they have Internet access."

-Event expected to last no longer than 30 minutes!

-Best updates so far coming from: http://www.mobilecrunch.com/2011/01/11/live-verizon-iphone-liveblog-new-york/

-Bloggers are in line now. Celebrity sightings were thought to include Mo Rocca but updated to say that it was actually John Oliver, from The Daily Show.

Speculation, but I agree!

7:41 am ON Jan 11 2011

Jason Chen: Unless this event isn’t JUST an iPhone event, I can’t see it lasting more than one hour. Even if they pull all the showmanship and MMA-style setup they did at CES, how long do you need to say that this is the same phone you already know, except you can’t call and use data at the same time?

Maybe they’ll bundle a MiFi with each one so you can. A 4G LTE MiFi. That would be pretty awesome, actually.

That would be nice to help remedy the voice+data issue, but would the MiFi data plan be "free" (or at least very substantially discounted) in such a bundle? That would be doubtful me thinks.
