Wow! Second title announced this week from Paramount

without 3D Blu-ray support for the original theatrical release.

Is Paramount abandoning 3D this year?!

I think the problem with Jackass is that most people with 3-D TVs would turn their noses up at the movie so it's not worth the money to produce a disc.

Yet, one must admire the balls the studio has for referring to anaglyph 3-D as "Classic"

What was the first one?  Other than Last Airbender 3D (which was retailer exclusive) they haven't done any 3D titles.  I wonder if this one will have a retail exclusive release too?

I believe that Megamind was a Paramount title that doen't appear to have a 3-D annoucement.

Ahh.  Megamind is a bit different since that is a Dreamworks SKG (animation) title which is a different company that Dreamworks.  Dreamworks SKG has had (up to this point) an exclusive with Samsung.  Monsters vs. Aliens, How to Train Your Dragon, Shrek 1, 2, 3, & 4 have all been released in 3D, just as part of Samsung exclusive kits.  I would bet that Megamind will be the next in that series.  Dreamworks SKG is a very big believer in 3D.

I also verifed that there will be no retail exclusive 3D version of Jackass 3 at this time like there was with Airbender.

I hate the fact that this movie was marketed as Jackass 3-D but for the home video release they are ditching that. At least Lionsgate is correctly releasing Saw 3-D as released & marketed in theaters along with the 2-D version which was called Saw: The Final Chapter.

Over at The Digital Bits, they posted this info today:

"Speaking of Paramount, a number of you have wondered why the studio isn't releasing Jackass 3D on Blu-ray 3D format on 3/8 with the Jackass 3 "2D version" on Blu-ray and DVD. Well... as it turns out, they might be after all. Sources have suggested to us that the Blu-ray 3D version IS coming but may be tied up as a Best Buy exclusive for the first few months after street date. So you'll be able to get it day and date, just not everywhere."
