Last evening Adam Gregorich and I had the opportunity to attend a press event in honor of the Blu-ray and DVD launch of Scott Pilgrim vs. The World. On hand were the film's director, creator and cast who took part in a Q&A session which was preceded by a look at the special content created for the Blu-ray and DVD. Director Edgar Wright (Hott Fuzz, Shaun of the Dead) took us through various features that touched upon the extensive effects work that had been created for the film as well as the exhaustive stunt work that was required of its actors.

Following this panel session we were treated to a screening of the film at the famous Egyptian Theater in Hollywood. Seeing this film for the first time was an extremely enjoyable experience. This highly stylish, inventive, visually rich film is told in comic book fashion with rock band music and a throwback to video gaming. While some of the in-jokes relating to video gaming may go over the heads of some, the laughs and visual ploys never seem to cease to the point where the movie becomes rapid-fire entertainment.

Below are some pictures from the press event. These will be followed up by video clips later today. Adam Gregorich will also be adding additional photos from the event and the film's screening at the Egyptian Theater which was Moderated by Guillermo del Toro.

Sweet!!

Seems a little random to give away an LP signed by just Aubrey Plaza, but hey, I like her!

Didn't realize the Blu-ray release was so imminent - I've been giving too much attention to box sets like the Alien Anthology and Back to the Future.

There are alot of Scott Pilgrim givaways at other places on the net, but the LP signed by Aubrey Plaza may be the best one.

Thanks for the coverage. This is probably my most anticipated BD release still upcoming for 2010. It's strange to see Mary Elizabeth Winstead without the full Ramona get up; here you can see a more polished Lucy McClane, whereas she's pretty much unrecognizable as Ramona. Beautiful either way, and an interesting contrast next to the wiry Michael Cera. It's too late now, but I'm definitely going to be back tomorrow to check out those panel clips with Guillermo del Toro. What an unexpected choice to lead the discussion.

Sure, I'd like to enter (if people from outside the US are eligible to join). I'm a big comics fan, and an Edgar Wright fan as well (Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz are hilarious) and I'd like to see if he can hold his own without the writing help of Simon Pegg. I'm sure he will.

Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: Synopsis
Inventive visuals, endearing performances and a genre-smashing style define Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, the critically acclaimed, action-comedy coming to Blu-ray™ Combo Pack and DVD November 9th from Universal Studios Home Entertainment. Meet charming and jobless Scott Pilgrim (Michael Cera). A bass guitarist for totally average garage band Sex Bob-Omb, the 22-year-old has just met the girl of his dreams...literally. The only catch to winning Ramona Flowers (Mary Elizabeth Winstead)? Her seven evil exes are coming to kill him. Genre-smashing filmmaker Edgar Wright (Hot Fuzz, Shaun of the Dead) tells the amazing story of one romantic slacker’s quest to power up with love in Scott Pilgrim vs. the World. Scott Pilgrim has never had a problem getting a girlfriend. It’s getting rid of them that proves difficult. From the girl who kicked his heart’s ass—and now is back in town—to the teenage distraction he’s trying to shake when Ramona rollerblades into his world, love hasn’t been easy. He soon discovers, however, his new crush has the most unusual baggage of all: a nefarious league of exes controls her love life and will do whatever it takes to eliminate him as a suitor. As Scott gets closer to Ramona, he must face an increasingly vicious rogues’ gallery from her past—from infamous skateboarders to vegan rock stars and fearsomely identical twins. And if he hopes to win his true love, he must vanquish them all before it really is game over.
