Twelve O'Clock High,Garrisons Gorillas, and Daktaari (1 Viewer)

Does anybody have any memories of these three programs? I know Garrison's Gorillas only lasted one season, and I would love to know what people thought of it. I know there was a cross over episode with the Combat crew at one point.


Twelve O'Clock High lasted three years, but I have never seen it. Do have a friend who's a history major, and I think he would appreciate the series. He's a big Combat fan.


And lastly, anybody else remember Daktari?

Judy the chimp, Clarence the lion... i remember daktari. If memory serves me, the theme song was pretty catchy, lots of drums. I kinda saw Marshall Thompson as an honest, father-like figure, while the old stodgy Brit -- actor's name slips my mind -- was a likeable character.

It's been about 30 years tho since i last saw it.

My first name is Clarence and I was in the 3rd or 4th grade when this was on. I also have vision problems which created a built in nickname. If you remember the show, you know what I mean. Tough to be a school child hearing , "Hey, its Clarence the cross-eyed lion."


I really enjoyed the show and all the animals.

Garrison's Guerillas I believe, replaced Combat on the ABC network, and I have seen an unaired pilot where the Combat squad "introduced" the Garrison's Guerillas via a parachute drop. I remember Dakari, but didn't like it, I found it boring at the time. Twelve O'Clock High came on too late, I had to go to bed before it started, but I remember the commercials for the show.

I liked GG. 12 o'clock high was good for the first 2 seasons but the 3rd half season in color wasn't too good. Always hated Daktari, which is my most disliked (popular) show of the 60s. I had a friend ask me one time years ago if there was any 60s show I didn't like and after a long while thinking, I came up with Daktari. The show was slow moving by 60s standards.

I always enjoyed Daktari which played in the UK as an afternoon children's show. I particularly liked Clarence, the cross eyed lion.


I caught Garrison's Gorilla's in late night screenings during the 80s. I liked it, didn't love it like most of the other 60s shows I know, but I would buy a dvd of it if it came out. It was a Desilu show which I guess would make it CBS territory.


Twelve O'Clock High I never saw, but would love to. Robert Lansing and Paul Burke in a QM Production! How could I not!

I love Daktari and would buy a DVD release of the program without giving it a second thought.


I've enjoyed watching Combat and Twelve O'Clock High. Both aired on television within the past couple of years (I think on the American Life Network before that channel started it's downhill plunge).

Garrison's Gorillas was a Selmur Production, the same company which produced Combat.

My mistake. Of course, a Selmur Production. It seems funny that Image didn't follow on from Combat with a set of Garrion's.

Other comments? I was playing the tv toons CD that had the themes from Twelve O'Clock High and The Rat Patrol on it, and found myself enjoying them quite a bit. I really miss the diversity of theme music the network shows had back than.

The theme for the Six Million Dollar Man sounds a lot like a slight variation on the Garrison's Gorillas theme to me. Don't know if it was the same composer on both. I saw a young Rudy Solari (Casino from Garrison's Gorillas) on a Highway Patrol episode on THIS-TV , playing a gas station guy .

"Garrison's Gorillas" is composed by modernist Leonard Rosenman who already took care of "Combat!".

"The Six Million Dollar Man" is composed by jazzman Oliver Nelson.


Speaking of the three above mentioned series, I watched the complete "Garrison's Gorillas" which is a light ripoff

from Robert Aldrich's "The Dirty Dozen".

It's fun and action-packed but the stories were under-developed unlike its precessor "Combat!".

"Daktari" is dull as hell and "Twelve O'Clock High" has a fine first season because of the charisma

of the leading actor (Robert Lansing) who got fired and replaced from season 2.

I remember DAKTARI, but didn't care for it. And I had an option of viewing it twice a week. Back when it aired, I think it was a Thursday night on CBS, it was a 7:30 program. On the weekends, we traveled from our normal Philly base to a cottage that received Baltimore channels. Baltimore's CBS station aired their own public affairs show in the DAKTARI slot and delayed its broadcast to Saturday afternoons at around 5 PM. So even with two chances, I couldn't get into that one.


I wasn't much into war stories either, so I don't recall much about GARRISON'S GORILLAS. I DID however get into TWELVE O'CLOCK HIGH, probably because of the fact that we watched and enjoyed both THE FUGITIVE and THE FBI - other Quinn Martin shows. Sometime in the second season, I tuned into TWELVE O'CLOCK HIGH, got sucked into one of the great stories and continued watching from there. Then I went back and watched the shows I'd missed in the syndicated reruns that appeared over the next couple of years.


There's been word that a national sister-channel of "THIS" is about to start up, perhaps as early as tomorrow, depending on your location. It's called ME-TV and will be on digital sub-channels, and it's opening schedule lists TWELVE O'CLOCK HIGH as one of its overnight offerings.

I'll echo the dislike for Daktari. It seemed way too boring for me as a kid. But I lived in a rural area and back then we could pick up only one TV channel, which was CBS. So, because I'd rather watch anything on TV than not watch TV at all, I watched it. Which actually made it my second-least-favorite show. Because I remember going up to my mom one day and telling her with much gravity that I had decided that I would rather not watch TV at all than have to sit through Lassie again. And with much relief, I never watched Lassie again (no offense to Lassie lovers out there).
