So after roughly a half-year hiatus, the gang is all back, but the main relationship between Bones and Booth is somewhat reset back to platonic-ness. The show returns on Fox in the 8 p.m. EDT timeslot tonight.

A really good premiere. My wife & I watched this and then picked up BBT on the DVR (I realize many will do the reverse, but I prefer the hourlong drama) and Bones delivered. Great setup of lots of things to happen this season, and a cute ending. I've said since Season 2 this cast has some of the best chemistry of any show on the air and it's still true.

I also like it when the "baddie" isn't really a bad person, etc. I think that's missing a lot of times from these shows, and I love that Bones had a chief mystery that ended as it did

With scared immigrants who were so afraid that the death of their child due to an accident would cause them to be deported they buried him on their own. Tragic and sad, and yet, Bones handled it with a great moment and made it pretty clear: these people aren't criminals, and they shouldn't be treated that way.

For so many shows that play the "throw 'em in prison" setup, I found tonights story to be really good.

Yes, it was a good opener there. It was interesting to see Numb3rs' Dylan Bruno (Colby) in the episode. We had just caught up with the final episodes of last season's NCIS and he was there as well. Sweets looked a lot older with the beard.

I'm guessing that platonic-ness is too forced and won't last very long

David Boreanaz MUST have an influence on the guest casting of this show, because the list I've compiled of all the guest actors who have been on either "ANGEL" or "BUFFY" is just too damn long to be a coincidence, including both this season's premiere and tonight's episode!

The woman with the allergies, Justina Machado.

She was in the ANGEL season 2 premiere "Judgement", playing the pregnant woman whose unborn child needed protecting.

In last week's season premiere, the mother of the missing child was played by Melissa Marsala, who appeared in second episode of ANGEL season 2, "Are You Now or Have You Ever Been", as focus of the story - a young paranoid fugitive hiding in the Hyperion hotel in 1952.

When I made the list I noted what episodes of Buffy/Angel the actors were in and who they played, rather than the Bones episodes they appeared in.

The list of guest actors is very, very long so I'll spoiler-tag it:

Aside (of course) from co-star TJ Thyne, who appeared in ANGEL season 5 as a lawyer, the following are guest actors from BONES who appeared on BUFFY, ANGEL or both:

Michael Mantell, who played hollywood agent Oliver Simon in both 'City Of' and 'Eternity', in season 1 of ANGEL.

Bonita Friedericy, who played Patience in the ANGEL season 4 episode 'Peace Out'.

K.D. Aubert, who was the second actress to play Nicki Wood - the second Vampire Slayer (and Robin Wood's mother) in season 7 of Buffy, killed by Spike (and was the original owner of his trademark leather coat).

Edward Edwards, who was one of Angelus' victims in the Buffy episode 'Amends'.

Leonard Roberts, who was part of 'The Initiative' in Buffy season 4 - Forest, although he and Angel never met in either crossover episode.

Jim Ortlieb, who was in the ANGEL season 3 episode 'Lullaby', playing a Wolfram & Hart suck-up.

Harry Groener, everybody's favorite evil Mayor of Sunnydale in season 3 of Buffy.

W&H liason Hamilton, or the man they call Jayne, Adam Baldwin.

Jasmine and Zoe herself, Gina Torres.

David Denman, better known as the ANGEL character Skip from seasons 3 and 4.

Clayton Rohner, who was in the ANGEL season 4 episode 'The House Always Wins'. He played DeMarco, the casino owner responsible for Lorne's abduction.

Rod Rowland, who was Angel's first W&H client in 'Conviction', Corbin Fries.

Tom McCleister, better known as Lorne's umm...mother.

Mark Harelik, who was in the ANGEL season 3 episode 'Waiting In The Wings'.

Kate Norby, who was part of Angel's past in the ANGEL season 3 premiere, 'Hearthrob'. She played the vampire Elizabeth.

Gregory Scott Cummins, who was one of the leftover vampire lackeys following the Anointed One in season 2 of Buffy, specifically 'School Hard'.

Danny Woodburn, better known as Mickey on "Seinfeld", was in the ANGEL season 4 episode 'The Magic Bullet', as the finger-eating demon who briefly befriends an on-the-run Fred.

Kali Rocha, better known as vengeance demon Halfrek.

Brent Jennings, who played vampire Absolom in the Buffy season 2 premiere 'When She Was Bad'.

Kristopher Polaha, who was Billy's cousin in the ANGEL season 3 episode, well, 'Billy'.

Mik Scriba, who was a parole officer who tried to kill Lindsey before Angel stepped in and offered to eat him in ANGEL season 2's 'Dead End'.

Colby French, who was the leader of the men trying to capture the Oden Tal women in the ANGEL season 1 episode "She".

Michael Cudlitz, currently kicking ass on the awesome show "Southland" was a zombie ball player / convict in the Buffy season 3 episode "The Zeppo".

Beth Grant, the original and dead owner of Cordelia's apartment in ANGEL season 1's "RM W/A Vu".

Azura Skye, who was a girl colliding with destiny named Cassie in season 7 of Buffy.

Patrick Fischler, conspiracy nut from the ANGEL season 4 episode 'The Magic Bullet'.

Channon Roe, freshly dead student Jack O'Toole from the Buffy season 3 episode 'The Zeppo'.

Ryan Alvarez, forever known as the "Pee Pee" demon in season 5 of ANGEL.

Joel David Moore, co-star in the biggest movie of all time "AVATAR", was a recurring character on BONES and made one appearance as a vampire in the ANGEL season 4 episode 'Salvage'.

Bianca Lawson, otherwise known as Kendra The Vampire Slayer.

Edwin Hodge, who was in the ANGEL season 2 episode 'First Impressions' as a guy getting yelled at by Gunn for skipping out on his duty and going to a house party instead.

Randy Oglesby, who played the professor who sent Fred to Pylea in the ANGEL season 4 episode 'Supersymmetry'.

Andy Umberger, known as D'Hoffryn the vengeance demon leader on Buffy, and fall-apart stalker in the ANGEL season 1 episode 'I Fall to Pieces'.

Tracy Middendorf, Angel's first client Tina, whom he couldn't save in the ANGEL pilot episode 'City Of'.

Clea DuVall, the invisible girl Marcy in the Buffy season 1 episode 'Out of Mind, Out of Sight'.

Well, Boreanaz is a producer on the show, so I'm sure he has some influence in casting guest bits.

Hodgins' reaction to Hannah's hotness was pretty funny.

That is a lot of actors/actress carry over. WOW.

I agree, Hodgins reaction was pretty funny!

What's even funnier about Hannah's casting is that Katheryn Winnich (Hannah) also guest-starred on "The Gates" in a vampire capacity as well.

I will admit, I have never watched Jersey Shore more then a minute here and there flipping; but the sarcastic take on it made me laugh.. a lot. Not the best bones episode, but funny.

Oddly, Big Bang Theory, which aired at the same time featured a reference to the "documentaries about Jersey Shore" too.

I guess all science nerds think alike?

If anything, this episode did such a good job of showing off the Jersey Shore types that I definitely DON'T ever want to watch that. Talk about obnoxious.

Funny, yes, but too obnoxious.

What a blast from the Science Dude.

The last scene with Bones in the bones costume with the the pigtails and doing the speech was pretty cool, but the reactions from the regulars was just priceless.

I guess they couldn't get the child actor who plays Parker for the episode. I expected to see him in the audience at the Jeffersonian since Booth mentioned how he liked the show.

This season of Bones has been quite fun, I like how they are flipping the script on "procedurals" so far.

When they were trying to persuade Bones to do the show, they told her she could inspire a little girl to be a scientist. After hearing the speech, I 'm wondering if she might have done that after all. Heck, even little boys get dig that speech.

I can't believe this thread has been hiding since the Science Dude. This weeks show with the dead surgeon was just staggering.
Micah was such a cool character I figured he just had to be a figment -- I'm still not entirely sure he isn't.

Bones standing there in the rain looking up, then soaking wet in the car with Booth was a culmination of 5+ years of character development.

My wife thought it was too cute by half. But I thought the storyline about Bones realizing that maybe she had made a mistake with the way she had led her life was a very interesting one, and I was reminded of the episode where Stephen Fry and Sweets talked about his book and assessment of their relationship. This show still has some of the best chemistry on TV, and I think it doesn't get a lot of traffc here because it's not as fast moving. But I enjoy it, every week. :)
