For anyone who doesn't recognize the title, it's essentially STAR BLAZERS. I used to watch that cartoon religiously when I was a kid, and, now, they've made quite a kick ass little live action flick. It opens up December 1st over in Japan. Just feast your eyes on this grade-A eye candy of a trailer:

Loved the show when I was a kid. I really hope this gets a U.S. theatrical release.

mmm live action eh? interesting. I watched the 2009 anime Space Battleship Yamato Resurrection recently and enjoyed it though it did drag on a bit.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Toho is in negotiations with a U.S. distributor.

This is good. This is very good.

I saw Space Battleship Yamato in Tokyo two weeks ago. It is quite a spectacular movie. It would be better off in the U.S. market if released subtitled, not dubbed. There's a lot of emotional scenes in it that would be ruined if dubbed horribly. This is where the actors' actual voices should be heard.

Unfortunately, there's this perception in Hollywood that people in the U.S. don't like subtitles. I still recall ads for the dubbed version of "Life is Beautiful" with cheery patrons remarking how much better the film was in English. Posted Image

I'm in. Used to watch the cartoon before first or second grade (can't remember which) at a friend's house in the morning, and then go running to school because classes started just as the show ended.

Based on nostalgia alone I'll probably enjoy this.

I didn't watch this as a kid and yet would also like to see it released in the US. Reminds of a combination of Babylon 5 and

Stargate Atlantis.

I also agree that it should be subtitled. It actually bugs me more to see a movie dubbed over as opposed to it being subtitled.

Was there an"official" DVD release?  I can't tell if the ones on Amazon are bootlegs or not, and I'm not about to shell out $45 for the imported Blu-ray
