I would like you to visit the Theta booth for me and find out what they are doing for:

 

- *new from factory* Casablanca III processors and HDMI (how much for the unit without DACs and when will they be available). I am not referring to older models to be upgraded.

- their current DAC offerings: are there plans in the future to replace the Premium, Superior II, and Extreme D2 DAC cards with new cards, or are these staying current for the foreseeable future?

 

I'm interested in your coverage from Digital Projection...as it seems likely that will be the company I will be going with once the theater is built.

Yeah, DP for me too as well as JVC - rumors are they have 3 or 4 new projectors coming out. Lots of info regarding those would be appreciated.

Just in general, what is the news on LED projectors - particularly anything other than the $10k+ monsters we've seen so far.

Word is that Optoma will be announcing a 3D converter box that will make the Optoma HD66 projector compatible with 3D Blu-Ray players and broadcast 3D content - and it may be available before the end of the year. I'd love to hear about this, as well as a glasses / emitter solution for the HD66, as it will most likely prove to be the most affordable 3D solution available.

I know you are already visiting some of these booths, but here are some things I am interested in:

 

Toshiba's new 3D TV that doesn't require glasses....how well does it work compared to the Panasonics and what is the off axis viewing like?

Any new 3D products from Panasonic including their new 3D camcorder

New Denon receivers including the anniversary model

Universal remote products

Anythign cool companies are doing with the iPad

New projectors from anyone under 10K that do 3D.

Optoma, the world’s #1 selling brand of DLP projectors, will be unveiling at CEDIA (Booth 4325) the 3D-XL, a breakthrough converter that makes 720p DLP projectors compatible with the latest Blu-ray players that are using 1080p 3D technology. The 3D-XL lets comes with two HDMI 1.4A inputs and converts the signal to HDMI 1.3 for 720p compatibility, letting 720p projector owners embrace 3D life without having to make a new, expensive investment.

 

 

We will be checking this out for sure.

A receiver (Vital 250) and a stand alone device (Flobox) for the iPad and iPhone (yes it will do Android, Windows Mobile, etc. sooner than later). Wondering if that will that work with any 720p projector or just certain Optoma models?
 

It sounds like it will be able to do all 720p projectors. I will be sure to ask though.

Thank you Parker -- very interested in that, also the glasses specs/requirements and of course the MSRP for the device and any required glasses.

After talking to Jon at Optoma the 3D converter box with be available for around $400. They are working on putting together a package that will include the

glasses but have no pricing on that option yet. Also, this will work with DLP front projectors only. It will work with earlier Optoma models like the HD66.

Will there be an Epson HD video?
Their press release for their new line of projectors indicates one model may have a lens memory feature for 2.35/2.40:1 screens similar to what the Panny AE4000 does.

I would just like some clarification on that.

Did he say if there will be a compatibility list for specific Optoma models or just any DLP - like would it work with an HD70?

I asked him about the HD66 and he said it would be compatible. I would imagine it will be the same with the HD70. Basically what he said was that it would be compatible with all of their DLP projectors. The only restriction is that it has to be a DLP type projector.

- Here it looks like it will be bundled with glasses. On the Specifications page, it lists ZD201 3D Glasses under standard accessories, alongside power adapter, etc. If this is true of the USA version, that will make the $400 price point a lot more attractive.

 

I can't find info on the ZD201 glasses anywhere - perhaps this is an upgrade of Optoma's BG-ZDO1 glasses?

 

It is stated elsewhere that 3D-XL will work the 720p 3D DLP projectors that operate at 120Hz refresh rates - so I believe that includes the HD66, but excludes the HD65. I'm unsure about the HD70...?

Jod did mention about the 120Hz refresh rate so that may be an issue as I know that 3D splits this to give you two images at 60Hz. He also didn't want to

comment on the glasses situation as it was something that he said they were working on and that they would have a price point and information about

them in the next couple of months.

Panasonic didn't have anything other than a the displays this year. Nothing on their phones, cameras, etc. that they had at the show in the past.

 

So far the only LED front projectors we have seen are well over the $10,000 price range. The majority are still using good ol' lamps.

Sorry newbie question but why would the 3D technology only work on a 720p projector? Why not 1080p? So it's a good Idea for me to get a 720p projector if I want to convert it to 3D later?
