Sunrise or Sunsets? (1 Viewer)

I'm going out to Los Angeles in the beginning of November

and then taking a single day side trip to San Francisco for
the purpose of shooting my favorite bridge, The Golden Gate.

 

What a chance to really play around with my D90.
 

I have the opportunity to get out to the bridge at sunrise or

sunset. Hate to do both if I don't have to since I will be
lodging closer to the airport.

 

Which setting do you think will be more beautiful to shoot

under. Sunrise or Sunset?

 

A sunset over the ocean (sunsets in the west) would be my choice. An angle that includes the Golden Gate Bridge would be wonderful. Maybe something from the north side of the bridge that also gives you a chance to capture some of the San Francisco skyline.

Scott, that shot would be problematic to compose because the city (the downtown area with all the high rises, at least) is east of the GG bridge. San Francisco is probably my favorite city to photograph, though. Took these on a couple trips there last year.

 

Ron, last year I walked the Golden Gate both ways and it was the coming out party for my D90. Between my walk on and around the bridge and my drive up into the Marin Headlands, I took over 500 shots that day. I think there's more of a chance that you might have to deal with fog early in the morning than late afternoon/early evening. On the other hand, maybe you won't mind the fog...it can help set up some dramatic pictures. I was able to get some good shots even with a heavy fog around the bridge. I'll post a couple later today.

Golden Gate is one place on my bucket list to shoot.

 

Love those last two Michael! I'd crank a little contrast in the first one to make it a bit more moody!

Great shots guys! Funny, living in California my whole life, and growing up 80 miles inland of the Bay Area, how much I take that city for granted. Now I'm motivated to really take some shots the next time I'm up there.

Inland? That must mean you're 80 miles closer to Yosemite. Can't wait to make it back there next month. The four hour drive from the Bay Area to the Valley is going to seem like forever.

There is indeed a difference in the quality of light between the two - the air is cleaner, more crisp in the morning while Sunsets tend to be more vivid. That said, I think I prefer sunsets since I am not a morning person!
