Rather than start a new thread for games we are playing that may be old and thus not being played by everyone else, maybe we could have a catch-all thread for whatever it is you are playing at the moment. I know this section doesn't get a lot of traffic, so the thread will probably move slow, but at least it'll be here. This is done at another forum, and people sometimes post screenshots that create interest in the games.

Right now, I am between major games. I just finished Zelda: Twilight Princess and I bought Bionic Commando: Rearmed and Limbo on XBox Live. I started with Rearmed. I was a fan of the original back in the NES days, so I ignored some of the mixed reviews this received. Well, so far, it's kind of dull. It looks nice, but I had one play session and haven't touched it for a couple days now. I'm thinking of moving on to Limbo. I've been watching that game since about 2006, so it's about time I actually played it.

I bought 6 games during the last GameStop B2G1 used sale and had a couple before that. I finished Mass Effect 1, Alan Wake (and the DLC episode), and Infamous, currently sort of playing Red Steel 2 and DJ Hero, and have No More Heroes 2, Mass Effect 2, and a few other old games to play. I've been thinking about getting Limbo and Shadow Complex on XBLA but don't have enough time to do so just yet.

Yeah, those b2g1 sales tend to set me even further back, even though I always tell myself I'm going to resist. I picked up Saboteur, Brutal Legend, and Ghostbusters last time, but I'm in the middle of Battlefield: Bad Company (the first one). It's pretty solid, but doesn't set my world on fire or anything. The save system (it saves automatically whenever you reach a save point, which is not marked on the map or anything) is mildly annoying.

Waiting for me to start in with it is the Gold's Gym cardio boxing Wii game. The family schedule is in the process of significant changes due to the start of kindergarten, so I need to figure out a convenient workout time.

Oh, and I also got the Wii edition of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen in the recent this 'n' that sale, which has a cool 2-player mode where one person controls the robot and the 2nd player is a "drone" and simply has to point and shoot. It lets me play together with my son, who's very young and not much into video games (but VERY into Transformers). The game appears to be completely different from the PS3 edition.

I also got Bionicle Heroes, Revenge of the Sith and Return of the King for PS2 and Madworld for Wii in that sale (all for about $17 total). I'll never finish this stuff. . .

I started Limbo last night. Cool game. I don't want to say too much to spoil anything, but the flickering B&W graphics remind me of an old Universal horror--particularly The Wolfman. The designers sure like to kill players.

I have a PC..

1. Doom 3. After a couple of restarts, I finished it years ago. It's fun again...easier than I remember. ...but nice and dark and spooky, as it should be. Hopefully Doom 4 won't install so many monster closets in the house.... ;)

2. Dungeon Master Return to Chaos. It's a freeware clone (just google...) of the classic hacknslash from FTL. Includes several versions, the addon and even the sequel DM II. All in a little over 12 Megs. Works great with XP. This is probably my overall fav games of all time. I waited a year to play on my Amiga. First game I got that needed the 512k memory card. I bought an 8 meg with 2 megs on it. Over kill!

Took a break from Gothic 2 GOLD that I got off steam for $1. But speaking of game deals, I got it recently with Gothic 3 for $1.99 actually. Seriously, an amazing deal for so much gameplay. I already had the plain Jane version of G2 and had paid $40 for it years ago. Nice to get the digital for so cheap with all the extra bits. Also had a G3 I bought used and it was scratched to heck. So that replacement is welcome.

Been craving: Dead Space, Mass Effect, Settlers Rise of an Empire, ...others...

I am currently playing two games:

1) Mafia 2 Demo (PS3) - I love this game. It's beautiful to look at and great fun to play (too bad about the 10 minute time limit). Unfortunately the demo has some graphic "tearing" but I've read somewhere that the PS3 demo is based on an older build of the game - and that the retail version of the game will look and play smoothly. So I am very happy about that. The original "Mafia" game is one of the greatest games I've ever played and it looks like Mafia 2 may be just as good if not better. /img/vbsmilies/htf/smile.gif

2) Assassin's Creed (PS3) - Im still very early in the game and had a tough time trying to pickpocket my target. But now that I got that out of the way, I'm now able to enjoy the game. It's great looking as most of you already know. I only had the PS3 since last Christmas so it's still very new to me. /img/vbsmilies/htf/smile.gif

Greg,

I just downloaded that game last week. Great game, but it was kind of short. I loved the atmosphere. The game reminds me of the Gashlycrumb Tinies.

I've been playing in short chunks over the last few days. I don't know how far I am to the end, but it'll have been worth it no matter how short it is. I did have to look up one solution in a YT video, which I hated to do. I wanted to finish completely on my own.

Joey,
Assassin's Creed was great. Assassin 2 is even better.
I'm playing Dragon Quest Sentinels Of The Starry Skies on DS. It's just like the other DQ games, and it's nice and long. I might be out of the loop for awhile, though, because my wife is due to deliver our first baby in October, so I'm sure I won't have much time to play. I got a pre sell ticket for Assassin 3, though. We will see how long it takes before I get a chance to play it.

Greg,

There were a couple spots that had me thinking for a while, but I figured them out. Usually in a game I get impatient and look up solutions, but this time I didn't.

I'm on one right now that has me stuck. I know what I need to do, but not how. I'm going to try to puzzle it out on my own.

You're probably close to the two parts that had me stuck the most. They were one after another. The first was the

one with the elevator and gravity switches (getting that second box was what had me completely baffled for a while) and the section right after that with the gravity switch, magnet switch, and two huge metal boxes.

I figured it out by accident! LOL Sometimes it's better to be lucky than smart. :)

Congrats. I kind of found the ending anti-climactic and a bit of a letdown. Not sure what I was expecting, though. Still a very fun game. What about you?

They've updated PixelJunk Monsters (trophies, etc.) and I'm going back through the game. I've beaten it before, perfect with rainbows... but damn, such a mental puzzle of strategy on each and every level. Addictive.

I didn't really get the ending. At first, I thought it was kind of like The Dark Tower and I had been put back in the exact place as the beginning. It was kind of a game where the story didn't matter, so I didn't care too much. The game was fun and I'd buy a sequel.

Now, I have to pick a new game.

I'm on a PC as well and last night just finished the main story of Assassin's Creed 2. Mark, I agree that AC2 was better than AC1, even though the ending fight was a bit easier in AC2 than I had expected (of course that may be due to the fact that I had all the best gear and equipment before I tackled the last guy).

I'm a real completionist, though, so I still have to go back and finish up the last of the side missions and find the last of the feathers. Can't wait for AC3 to come out!

I finished Battlefield: Bad Company. Overall, it was a solid modern FPS but nothing in it particularly blew me away. I've got a cold that's kept me from getting into the cardio boxing game, but it also give me some time to start in on Uncharted 2. Whoa Nellie! After 3 days I'm 64% of the way through, and games like that usually take me at least 6 months to finish. It is seriously addictive -- I've basically been glued to the TV.

My wife almost killed me when I tried playing it in front of my son. :)
