The Disclaimer

Standard disclaimer: All prices are taken from the websites of each chain, or from their printed Sunday advertisements. All prices are subject to change by each chain. Prices and inventory in-store may or may not match the website price.

I, obviously, cannot include EVERY title released in a given week in the RoundUp. The titles included are those that I am interested in...as well as those which I consider will be of interest to a majority of consumers (and sometimes I’ll miss one!). I don't get paid for this, and I don't have the time to list every DVD. So, please don't complain! If there is a title not included in the RoundUp that you want to see, PLEASE just look it up yourself, and be nice enough to post and share the results with everyone!

Note that I cannot include Wal-Mart/Sam’s Club prices in the RoundUp. They set prices at individual stores based on nearby competition, so there is no way I can say here what price you'll find at YOUR local Wal-Mart/Sam’s Club location. And, Circuit City is still out of business...even in Hawaii (where they NEVER guaranteed their prices anyway).

The Specials

--Some pretty wild price swings this week between amazon & Best Buy.  Target and Costco are exceptionally quiet.

--A couple points of interest.  I don't know where Best Buy came up with its flyer prices for the new release Blu-rays of Cop Out, The Losers and The Runaways.  But all three titles are listed at $19.99 at bestbuy.com (commensurate what amazon is selling them for).

--No new release specials from Best Buy this week.   They list the DVD of Hot Tub Time Machine for $14.99 though.  img/vbsmilies/htf/rolleyes.gif

--Best Buy has the following Blu-ray discs on sale this week:

$9.99:  2001, A Clockwork Orange, Dark City, The Express, Paris Je T'aime, Perfect Storm

2/$20:  The Last House on the Left, Wanted, A Perfect Getaway, Duplicity, The Unborn, Taking Woodstock, Bruno.

$29.99:  The Book of Eli

--Best Buy Odds and Ends:  A list of TV on DVD season sets on "sale."

--At Target this week buy BOTH Jersey Shore: Season 1 and the Jersey Shore soundtrack CD ($9.99) and SAVE $5.  Quantities limited, no rainchecks.

--The following Blu-ray discs are on sale at Target:

$9.99:  Speed, Super Troopers, Terminator, Bram Stoker's Dracula, Kung Fu Hustle, Major League, Speed Racer

--Target Odds and Ends: A list of TV on DVD season sets on "sale."

There's Jessie the yodeling cowgirl. Bullseye, he's Woody's horse. Pete the old prospector. And, Woody, the man himself.Of course, it's time for Woody's RoundUp. He's the very best! He's the rootinest, tootinest cowboy in the wild, wild west!

Posting the WRU up a little early tonight as I am, again, sitting in my car outside the small library in a remote outpost in the Adirondack Mountains.  /img/vbsmilies/htf/patriot.gif

Hope everyone is having a great weekend!

Dang, Mike, that's dedication.  /img/vbsmilies/htf/wink.gif

Looking at Amazon for this week's Super Friends release, I found the following title:

Super Friends!: Season One, Vol. Two ~ Flash, et al. (DVD - 2010)

Notice the listing has "Flash" as an actor instead of the voice actors in the show.  Same goes for V 1.1 of the series (that one has "Superman").  The rest of the Super Friends releases use the voice actors.

Perfectly dorky of me to notice, granted, but it amused me.

Thanks Mike!  While on vacation no less!  I added Matt's most recent Criterion review links to the grid.  I know Ken has reviews of Cop Out and the Losers on the way, and Todd is working on a pair of Roger Cormin classics on BD from Shout Factory.

Thanks, Mike!

I'll pick up Cop Out on Blu when it makes it to the bargain rack, but $19.99 is too steep of a price point for that flick. Nothing for me again this week.

Red Shoes and Black Narcissus

Maybe the Daniel Ellsberg Blu to lighten the mood if watching a lot of my new Criterions depress me too much -- never noticed just how many of their collection have such a dark subject matter.  These new 2 may be a couple of the lighter movies.

The Runaways is a possibility though I suspect I'll wait for a few weeks.

Thanks Mike and Patrick! This week looks like another another slow one for me. Are these the dog days of summer or what? I'll probably pick up Galaxy of Terror on Blu at some point, but not until it goes on sale in the $15 dollar range. Otherwise, I don't see much of anything else calling my name...

I reviewed the new DVD versions of Black Narcissus and The Red Shoes as well as their Blu-ray counterparts.

The Black Narcissus DVD review is here.

The Red Shoes DVD review is here.

David, neither of these two Criterions is light subject matter. They're both great films, but they're certainly very dramatic.

Thanks, guys, as always, for this service.

Oh I know, but looking at Hunger, Ride With the Devil, Vivre Sa Vie,  Red Desert, Bigger then Life, Christmas Tale, etc.  -- death, torture, death of ideals, physical abuse, lives in ruin seem to be par for the course as great as these films are

I can't wait for Yojimbo to show up just to break up the pattern.

Just to follow up for a second: BestBuy.com is listing the SuperFriends set for $19.99, a few bucks cheaper than what Mike has in the grid but still more than Amazon.
