Are there any plans for "Tora! Tora! Tora!" on Blu-ray? It's always been one of the Fox classic war film trio ("The Longest Day" and "Patton" being the other two) and has generally come out at the same time in the various formats. Now it's the only one without a Blu-ray release, while "Battle of Britain," which has not generally gotten the "Big Three" treatment, is and has been out on Blu (it came out with "Patton" and "Longest Day").

So then, is "Tora! Tora! Tora" getting a Blu-ray release, perhaps in time for Pearl Harbor Day?

I was on an aircraft carrier which was making a port call at Pearl Harbor when they were filming the re-enactment of the December 7 attack. That was a surreal experience!

Now that this film is out in Blu in Europe, when do they plan to let us have it in America? After all, it DOES memorialize a key U.S. event -- certainly better than that turkey "Pearl Harbor."

Well, the 70th Anniversary of the attack is next year so I expect it sometime in 2011.

A Blu release could also include the 5-6 minutes of footage shot by Akira Kurosawa and rediscovered about a year ago. Would be a fascinating extra completing the production history of the film. Stuart Galbraith IV could contribute the story of Kurosawa´s involvement in the film. He wrote about it in an issue of the UK film mag Sight & Sound.
