Odder things have happened. Apparently Cameron was invited to a meeting about using some of his technology in managing the BP oil spill. http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20100601/sc_afp/usoilpollutionenvironmentfilm_20100601192918
WASHINGTON (AFP) – Filmmaker James Cameron and another Canadian who built submersibles for the director's 1989 thriller "The Abyss" joined talks on Tuesday in Washington on innovative ways of capping the Gulf oil spill. Cameron and Phil Nuytten, head of North Vancouver-based Nuytco Research, were to join several deepwater and oil sector experts meeting with Environmental Protection Agency officials, a spokeswoman for Nuytco told AFP.
If that isn't a feather in your cap. The government calls you for your expertise.. and you're a filmmaker. Kudos to Mr. Cameron.

Don't forget about Kevin Costner (and his brother Dan) and their Ocean Therapy machines that separates oil from sea water. Though I'm not sure if their invention will make much of a dent in the oil pollution clean-up effort if the leak continues to do so for another 2 months.

If the thing with Cameron works out I hear Warren Beatty and Dustin Hoffman might be asked in to fix that whole mess in the Middle East.
