Need Help ($1500 Best Buy Only) (1 Viewer)

Hello all, I’m in need of your expertise and recommendations.
Here’s the scoop. I recently got a TV from best buy; well I ended up winning a much better one in a raffle at a softball tourney. So I was able to take back the one I bought. I chose to receive a store credit because I had intended to get a new fridge there. Well I ended up getting the one I have fixed. So basically what this all boils down to is this. I want to jump into a new home theater system. I have done some moderate research, but still trying to decide what to get. I’m completely replacing my old system.
I have roughly $1500 to spend. Must be at Best Buy due to my credit there.
What I’m basically asking you guys is to spend my money for me on a system and list the breakdown of everything. I will need a receiver, speakers, and sub. Looking to get the most performance for the money. I know there are better options out there, but I’m limited to what best buy has available. Doesn’t have to be the best of the best, just something solid. (Also please note, the full $1500 doesn’t have to be spent if there is a very good option for cheaper)

12x16 – One Solid Door – 2 Windows – Wood Floor – 8ft Ceilings – Drywall walls

Do you already have a receiver? If so, I'd blow the whole $1500 on speakers. The BB stores have very little on display these days, so getting a chance to listen to the speakers before buying might be dificult. I'm a fan of larger speakers, with 8" woofer the minimum for me. In a sub, I think 12" is a minimum.

Yes I do currently have a reciever, but It is 7+ years old and Its given me some problems so I wanted to upgrade that as well. So in actuality I will need a reciever within that budget.

Speakers can be very subjective (I'm sure there will be many posts to follow by other members with their recommendations), so if you can listen to them before purchasing, please do so. Also, if you do not want or cannot afford 7.1, you can still run the receiver in a 5.1 configuration.

I still think the PS3 is a good bargain, as it is still one of the fastest-loading Blu-ray players in its price range (although Sony's new 3D-ready BD players are catching up), plus it has built-in Wi-Fi, Netflix streaming, and can be used as a media center for all of your music and photos. You do not have to use it as a gaming system. If you opt for the PS3, definitely get the Sony-branded PS3 remote. The included game controller is cumbersome to use when watching movies or listening to music, and the third-party remotes are a bit lacking in features (you cannot power-on the PS3 with them).

Ok lets just say I'm able to pawn off the gift card to someone. With that being said, what sort of setup to you guys recommend. Also, I have a blu-ray player already.

It's always fun spending someone elses money. I'd stick with spending your money on a 5.1 setup and when you come up with another couple hundred bucks just add two more to go to 7.1. You'll be much happier with this bookshelf configuration than satellite speakers. I'm a Paradigm guy, but I haven't priced in a while. I also do like Polk and Boston speakers.

From Best buy I would defnitely go with a yamaha / klipsch setup. Do you have a speaker size preference?

This also leaves you some cash for cables and speaker wire and all that stuff you will need. You would love the way this system sounds esp for movies. You might want bigger fronts or something if listen to a lot of music too. you can always use the satalite speaker fronts from this system as the rear left and right in a 7.1 setup and get some bookshelf klipsch as fronts.

At Best Buy I'd probably pick this.

I would highly recommend this setup over small satellites. You'll be happier in the long run. I know it's 5.1 and not 7.1, but I highly suggest putting your money into a better 5.1 setup and then when you get some money saved up, you can get something like this

Did some shopping around on Polk Audio. Any thoughts on picking out of these pairings if you had to choose? (Got to hear some of them in-store and was pretty impressed.) Also, any cheaper places possibly online? That Pioneer would be just fine. I probably prefer Yamaha, Onkyo, or Denon, but Pioneer makes great equipment also. I ordered my Onkyo TX-SR805 from Amazon (and saved myself about 350 bucks) and it's been going great for just over 2 years now. I wouldn't hesitate. Just watch Amazon does sell from other vendors, most of which are perfectly fine. But you might make certain you know who the actually seller is.

If you're not afraid to shop online, save yourself the money and go that direction. And No Sales TAX!. Well, at least until this Congress decides to institute a national sales tax.

If you're buying a receiver online, I'd probably go with this over the Pioneer, but then I'm an Onkyo guy.

Speakers are.. well, sorta whatever you like. I would go into a store where you can actually listen to speakers that are hooked up. Best Buy is not really that way. Bear in mind, alot of brick and mortar mom and pop shops will cut you a deal if you buy a 5.1 or 7.1 system whereas these big retailers don't really negotiate. If you went into an independent retailer, like I did, I got them to give me a discount price on speakers since I purchased my Paradigm configuration all around. I've been told the margin on speakers is quite alot higher than electronics.
