is it better to come out of CD/DVD player in digital or analog (as in OPPO 83-SE or Pioneer BDP-09)?
Iam being told CDs are compressed when coming out in digital

CD's come out on digital as 2.0 PCM, which by it's very nature is uncompressed. Don't get advice from that person ever again.

Don't forget that most pop CDs do have highly compressed amplitudes. That might be what caused the confusion. I mean that they're recorded so that their average sound levela are quite high, so that their quiet passages are not all that much quieter than their loudest passages, and both are higher than is common for concert recordings. Studios seem to be recording them at higher and higher levels as time goes on. It doesn't matter if you use the digital or analog outputs of the player to listen to them, though. Both are very loud. :(
