What happened to the "The Digital Bits said "By the way, we've learned from industry sources that Fox will likely announce the release of Baz Luhrman's Moulin Rouge! on Blu-ray in the weeks ahead..."

Did Bill Hunt say "the weeks ahead?"

I don't have the exact quote in front of me.

He's merely reporting that they are working on the title.

If it were going to be a Christmas release we are past
the announcement date.  If they are looking for a
February window then perhaps something will be
announced shortly.

You can't always time these things.

Yeah. He said "By the way, we've learned from industry sources that Fox will likely announce the release of Baz Luhrman's Moulin Rouge! on Blu-ray in the weeks ahead..." Like you said though, it's not an exact science and I originally posted that quote on September 20 so it's not like it's really been that long since Bill Hunt said it.

Maybe they're going for a tie-in with Valentine's Day?

Sounds plausible, since that would also be about the time a home video release of The Men Who Stare at Goats would be.

Typical Bill Hunt, I should have know better. When I read "weeks ahead", that means with in three or four weeks, at most.

The studio know's exactly when they plan to release titles, it's all about timing.

Not always, Ron.

All we know the title is being prepp'd.

Perhaps there is no release window selected yet.

Furthermore, when it comes to dates set in stone
you of all people, a veteran of this forum, should
know those dates always change.

Heck, there is Warner stuff that was supposed
to be out 3 years ago despite the fact it has been
in the preparation stages since then.

Valentines Day sounds reasonable at this point.

I signed up to be notified by Amazon when it becomes available.

Looks like Romeo + Juliet is also getting prepped, according to blu-ray.com: http://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=3665

"And now the reprimand, from an American critic. He reproaches me for using film as a sacred & lasting medium, like a painting or a book. He does not believe that filmmaking is an inferior art, but he believes, and quite rightly, that a reel goes quickly, that the public are looking above all for relaxation, that film is fragile and that it is pretentious to express the power of one's soul by such ephemeral and delicate means, that Charlie Chaplin's or Buster Keaton's first films can only be seen on very rare and badly spoiled prints. I add that the cinema is making daily progress and that eventually films that we consider marvelous today will soon be forgotten because of new dimensions & colour. This is true. But for 4 weeks this film [The Blood of a Poet] has been shown to audiences that have been so attentive, so eager & so warm, that I wonder after all there is not an anonymous public who are looking for more than relaxation in the cinema." - Jean Cocteau, 1932

I did as well and just got the notice it was available for preorder:

What I haven't seen is an official release date? Is this wishful thinking on Amazon's part or has a date been set?

As far as I'm concerned, it's a damned shame that a field as potentially dynamic and vital as journalism should be overrun with dullards, bums, and hacks, hag-ridden with myopia, apathy, and complacence, and generally stuck in a bog of stagnant mediocrity. - Hunter S. Thompson, 1958, from cover letter he wrote for a newspaper job.

Date has not been set though it should be forthcoming very shortly. Would not be surprised if we see an official announcement as early as this week or shortly thereafter. Gotta say, most all the studios thus far have not really announced any "meaty" BD catalog releases for the holiday season. Fox has really pulled out the stops to ensure that there are some great fan favorites coming our way.

Assuming a September start to the season, there's a ton of good, well-known catalog:

Forbidden Planet
Mars Attacks!
THX-1138
Breathless
Jacob's Ladder
Se7en
The Twilight Zone: Season 1
American Beauty
Charade
Delicatessen
King Kong (1933)
The Thin Red Line
Beauty and the Beast
The Exorcist
The Maltese Falcon
The Treasure of the Sierra Madre
The Darjeeling Limited
Three Kings
Psycho (1960)
Seven Samurai
Back to the Future Trilogy
Paths of Glory
Fritz Lang's Metropolis
The Goonies
Finding Nemo
Fantasia
Fantasia 2000

And that's just what's been officially announced so far!

Jesse, I'm not denying that the list of titles you provided aren't good ones.  You compiling and offering up that look presents a very compelling list of titles to choose from. I am sure you are aware, however, that there has been some loudly voiced concern about some of the studios sitting on a lot of catalog product and dragging their feet in getting releases out on Blu-ray. I'm simply saying that, in my opinion, Fox has really pulled out some prime offerings that are going to easily compete what is being offered by other studios.  Of course, everyone has different tastes in film so perhaps not everyone will be as enthusiastic as I am at this point.
