CENTURY CITY, Calif. – Filled with all the original music fans couldn’t do without, the quirky, funny, dramatic and outrageous show, Ally McBeal: The Complete Series, arrives for the first time ever as a 32-disc DVD collection October 6 from Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment.  “Ally McBeal” Season One will also be available the same day as a six-disc DVD set.  Starring an outstanding ensemble cast including Golden Globe®-winner* Calista Flockhart (“Brothers & Sisters”), Oscar®-nominee** Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man), Portia de Rossi (“Arrested Development,” “Better Off Ted”), Courtney Thorne-Smith (“According To Jim,” “Melrose Place”), Lucy Liu (Charlie’s Angels), Emmy Award®-winner*** Peter MacNicol (“Numb3rs”) and Jane Krakowski (“30 Rock”), the original comedy follows the trials and tribulations of an eccentric and neurotic single 28-year-old lawyer (Flockhart) fresh out of Harvard Law School, looking for love and fulfillment in life.  Working in a Boston law firm with her ex-lover, his new wife, money loving boss and a nosy, gossiping secretary, the hilarious groundbreaking series featured amusing fantasy sequences, flashbacks and voiceovers to reveal Ally’s innermost thoughts and feelings.  The show also had many offbeat running gags and themes, such as Ally’s tendency to immediately fall over whenever she met somebody she found attractive, and Richard Fish’s wattle fetish and humorous mottos, a.k.a “Fishisms.”  The series was also known for its wide array of music from pop culture icons including Frank Sinatra, Elton John, Steppenwolf, Ray Charles, Bob Dylan, Mariah Carey and Jon Bon Jovi, as well as the heartfelt performances from artist Vonda Shepard.

Winner of seven Emmy® Awards and four Golden Globes®, and from the prolific Emmy®-Award****winner David E. Kelley, Ally McBeal: The Complete Series features bonus material fans will love including a brand new recollective piece “Bygone Days an Ally McBeal Retrospective” with cast and creators including Calista Flockhart, Jane Krakowski, Lucy Liu, Peter MacNicol, Gil Bellows, Greg Germann, and David E. Kelley, The Best of Ally McBeal soundtrack with never before released songs, Season 2 TV Special “Life and Trials of Ally McBeal,” Season 5 “Goodbye, Ally,” behind-the-scenes and much more.  The Ally McBeal: The Complete Series will be available just in time for the holidays for $199.98 U.S. / $199.98 Canada.  “Ally McBeal” Season One will also be available on DVD for the suggested retail price of $39.98 U.S. / $54.98 Canada and when purchased at Target, will include an insert to download three songs from The Best of Ally McBeal soundtrack.  Prebook is September 9.

Series Synopsis:

Get your fix of love, laughter and lunacy with the award-winning show that made Calista Flockhart a household favorite. With engaging story lines, hip music and appearances by some of the world’s biggest stars, including Robert Downey Jr., Elton John, Christina Ricci, Jon Bon Jovi, Mariah Carey, Taye Diggs, Tracey Ullman and Barry White, “Ally McBeal” transformed TV for women and raised the comedy-drama genre to an outrageous new level!

Well... first off, how the hell did they manage that?

Second... is there any way this could mean anything but all the music that was originally in the broadcast version of the show is still there?

Third... I'll wait for the reviews, but if this comes out completely intact as the press release says it is... I guess I'll replace my R2 set.

They must have high expectations for this set to have all original music and be charging the price they're charging.  I'm definitely not complaining, just surpised.

I'll believe this when I see it. All original music intact for that price? If they can do it, why can't other shows? It's unbelievable to me that the clearance costs for this show weren't astronomical.

They must have had lots incriminating photos of lots of songwriters.

Fox should be commended for this. I sincerely hope it sells well.

Enough is enough, Disney. We DEMAND the release Song of the South on Blu-ray.

It could be that they had licensed the broadcast and video rights to alot more songs as the series went on so they didn't have to go back and 're-license' as much music as it appears.

Like Matthew said, I certainly hope this sells well because Fox deserves a reward for getting all the music. Plus, I hope it will help convince other studios to take similar risks when it comes to spending money on licensing music for shows.
