VideoETA lists Volume 6 1949-1951 for release on June 16...

This is still tentative information; Sony has not yet made an official announcement.

So happy to see them moving quickly on these sets. I'm looking forward to Vol. 6 so soon after Vol. 5. This has the bulk of many Shemp favorites. With fewer shorts in the remaining sets, I wonder if that's where they will apply the solo shorts for Shemp and Joe.

According to other info previously posted the plan is for :
Vol. 7 : Shemp 1952-1954
Vol. 8 : Shemp 1955-1956 Plus the Shemp Solo Shorts
Vol. 9 : Besser 1957-1958 Plus the Besser Solo Shorts

These were all supossed to be out by the end of the year although that is now looking like it may only be up to Vol. 8. A logical Vol. 10 would be for the 6 Columbia Feature Films.

Yes, maybe with the Joe De Rita solo shorts. Those should be ... well, interesting.

Shouldn't that be "Besser 1957-1959"? They did hold the last couple of shorts for release in 1959.

Keep em coming Sony.

When they finish with the final volume (the Joe Besser shorts), I'd love to see a box set of the feature films. Followed by a set of "bonus features" (that could be bought separately).

I wonder if they'll do something to coincide with the upcoming Farrelly Bros. "re-imagining." (Yeah, you heard that right -- in 2010 it'll be Benicio Del Toro as Moe, Sean Penn as Larry, and Jim Carrey as Curly!!!)

I'm a little frightened of the new movie, but maybe we'll get a nice mega-set of the original stuff as a tie-in.

I know you're not making that up but since movies fall apart and casts change all the time before shooting actually starts, I'll believe it when I see it.

I hope so thats some horrible mis-casting if true. Sean Penn has no business in this and Jim Carrey as Curly ... give me the puke bag. Jim Carrey as Jerry Lewis maybe but no way as Curly.

I could see Jim Carrey as Emil Sitka - maybe.

Sony already is doing something - this DVD series. And this is all that matters to me. Kinda like how Van Helsing got Universal to put together all the Famous Monster DVDs or that crummy Steve Martin film induced the MGM boxset of the Peter Sellers boxset. It's like no matter how bad the movie, at least they aren't hiding the original source material

We all have a great option regarding that Three Stooges movie, which is not to see it.

The odds that it will even remotely portray the Stooges as they were in real life are close to absolute zero. This, of course, is true of all biographical movies.

The problem with movies is, and always has been, they they cast someone who's "hot" today, rather than finding the best actor in the world to play a part. Thinking about the three they've announced to play Moe, Larry and Curl(e)y is really almost as funny as anything the Stooges ever did.

By the way: Have you guys seen the TV pilot the Stooges made in 1949? It shouldn't be missed, and it would have been fantastic to have had it included on this new set. It's typical Stooge shtick with Stooge regulars like Emil Sitka in it, but done before a live audience, which seems to be full of kids who find the whole thing hysterical.

Watching the guys live shows what great comedians they really were, even with weak material. Their timing seems even better with an audience to play off, and it's amazing how Moe can hit or slap Shemp live and make it look real, without hurting him.

The Farrelly project is not a bio-movie. It's their latest sophmoric comedy, capitalizing on the Stooges to generate box-office... in partnership with C3, the Stooges' trademark owners.
