Hi Bill.
I actually owned a KSW-12 for a few weeks but found it to be boomy and not very good.
Whats the price range?
Some better respected brands of subs are SVS and HSU Research and I believe both of these have B-stock subs in the $400 range.

Elemental Designs has subs from ranging from a single 8" driver to dual 18" drivers. The standard finish is plain black but they may be offering others by now. I've even heard of people getting it in raw MDF and applying their own finish (to save money and match their existing speakers).
