Top-Rated Lifetime TV Movie Debuts on DVD May 5

Culver City, CA (February 23, 2009) – Living Proof -- Lifetime’s top-rated TV docudrama about the UCLA oncologist who helped develop the revolutionary breast cancer drug Herceptin debuts on DVD May 5 from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. Harry Connick Jr. (New in Town) stars as Dr. Dennis Slamon, with a solid ensemble cast including Amanda Bynes (Sydney White), Jennifer Coolidge (TV’s “Nip/Tuck”), Angie Harmon (TV’s “Women’s Murder Club”), Regina King (TV’s “Southland”), Swoosie Kurtz (TV’s “Pushing Daisies”), Bernadette Peters (TV’s “Ugly Betty”), Academy Award® nominee Amy Madigan (TV’s “Grey’s Anatomy”), Tammy Blanchard (Cadillac Records), John Benjamin Hickey (Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen), Paula Cale Lisbe (TV’s “Imperfect Union”) and Trudie Styler (Alpha Male).

Based on Robert Bazell’s book, Her-2, Living Proof was directed by Dan Ireland (Jolene) from Vivienne Radkoff’s script, and executive produced by Academy Award® winner Renée Zellweger (Best Supporting Actress 2004, Cold Mountain), plus Neil Meron (Hairspray, Chicago), Craig Zadan (Hairspray, Chicago) and Vivienne Radkoff (TV’s “The Tempted”). The DVD will be available for $24.96 SLP.

Dr. Slamon (Connick Jr.) toiled for eight years to win FDA approval for Herceptin, a revolutionary cancer treatment which works by “switching off” cancer cells, rather than poisoning the cells as chemotherapy does. When the funding for the necessary drug trials was in jeopardy, philanthropists Ronald Perelman of Revlon and Lilly Tartikoff (Harmon) came to the rescue. The money raised from Revlon’s “Fire and Ice Ball” and “Run/Walk for Women” (May 2 and 9, this year) allowed the drug trials to continue. Eventually, Slamon’s dedication and persistence were rewarded when Genentech secured FDA approval for Herceptin. Since then, hundreds of thousands of women’s lives have been saved by this breakthrough cancer treatment.
