The Disclaimer
Standard disclaimer: All prices are taken from the websites of each chain, or from their printed Sunday advertisements. All prices are subject to change by each chain. Prices and inventory in-store may or may not match the website price.

"LP" in the RoundUp table means a store’s Sunday flyer says "Low Price". That means I could not locate a definite price for the item, and the ad is all I have to go on. Retailers use these phrases in advertisements so that they do not violate MAP (Minimum Advertised Price) agreements with the studios. Doing so can cost them thousands or even millions of dollars in co-op advertising funds.

I, obviously, cannot include EVERY title released in a given week in the RoundUp. The titles included are those that I am interested in...as well as those which I consider will be of interest to a majority of consumers (and sometimes I’ll miss one!). I don't get paid for this, and I don't have the time to list every DVD. So, please don't complain! If there is a title not included in the RoundUp that you want to see, just look it up yourself, and be nice enough to post and share the results with everyone!

Note that I cannot include Wal-Mart/Sam’s Club prices in the RoundUp. They set prices at individual stores based on nearby competition, so there is no way I can say here what price you'll find at YOUR local Wal-Mart/Sam’s Club location. And, as always, Circuit City does not guarantee their sale prices in Hawaii.

The Specials

--Trying to figure out release dates at the end of a calendar year (around the holidays) is tricky at best. The dates (listed in parentheses above) are the best I can ascertain. And, they might be changed at the lat minute by the distributor.

--As part of that confusion, it seems many retailers are listing certain titles such as Burn After Reading, The House Bunny & Death Race as titles making their debut this week. I had listed them all in last week’s RoundUp if you want to look there (or look below) for prices.

--Best Buy has the following prices on the following titles this week: Burn After Reading: $16.99 (BD $25.99), Death Race: $16.99 (BD $26.99), The House Bunny: $16.99 (BD $27.99).

--Buy Lost: Season 4 (on SD-DVD OR Blu-ray) AND any other season of Lost and SAVE $20. Must be purchased on same receipt.

--Best Buy will have the Blu-ray version of Band of Brothers on sale, this week, for $37.49. Also, BB will have the John Adams mini-series SD-DVD set for just $27.49 SAVE 50% on ALL HBO SERIES. In store and on-line.

--And, BB will also be selling the following Blu-ray discs for $24.99 apiece: 21, 27 Dresses, 3:10 to Yuma, Alvin & the Chipmunks, The Bank Job, The Dark Knight, Drillbit Taylor, Fred Claus, The Forbidden Kingdom, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Get Smart, Hancock, The Happening, Hellboy II, The Incredible Hulk, Indiana Jones 4, Iron Man, Juno, Kung Fu Panda, Made of Honor, No Country for Old Men, Prom Night, Rambo 4, Sisterhood of Traveling Pants 2, Speed Racer, Step Up 2, Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Traitor, Tropic Thunder, Wall-E, What Happens in Vegas, The X-Files: I Want to Believe, You Don’t Mess with the Zohan.

--Best Buy Odds and Ends: Best Buy has lists of DVDs for sale @ $4.99 & $6.99 (Double Feature DVDs) & $14.99 (these include some recent releases such as: Wall-E & Hancock).

--Circuit City has the following prices this week: Burn After Reading: $19.99, Death Race: $14.99 (BD $26.99), The House Bunny $17.99 (BD $29.99).

--The following Blu-ray discs are $12.99 @ Circuit City this week: The Devil’s Rejects, First Blood, The Punisher, Stargate, Terminator 2, Total Recall. Can you think of a more Christmassy list than that?!? Posted Image

--Circuit City Odds and Ends: Lists of titles for $3.99, $6.99 & $14.99.

--Target is listing a price of $16.99 apiece, this week, for Burn After Reading, Death Race & The House Bunny. All three Blu-ray versions of these titles are listed at $29.99.

--Target, this week, is advertising a FREE $5 TARGET GIFTCARD with the purchase of TWO of any of the following titles: Camp Rock ($19.99), Hannah Montana: Best of Both Worlds Concert ($24.99), Hannah Montana: One in a Million $14.99), High School Musical: Encore Edition $17.99, High School Musical 2: Extended Edition ($19.99). Must be purchased on same receipt.

--Target, this week, is also advertising a FREE $5 TARGET GIFTCARD with the purchase of TWO of any of the following ($19.99 Disney) titles: 101 Dalmatians (animated), Enchanted, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Snow Buddies, The Sword in the Stone. Must be purchased on same receipt.

--Target also has an EXCLUSIVE TITLE this week: American Teen (for $16.99).

--Target also has some nice prices on SD-DVD sets. Such as John Adams for $24.99, Band of Brothers ($29.99), The Godfather Set ($34.99) Complete Rocky ($19.99), Bourne Trilogy ($19.99) and Casablanca Ult. Coll. Ed. ($29.99).

--Target Odds and Ends: A list of DVDs for $7.50 & $10.00.

There's Jessie the yodeling cowgirl. Bullseye, he's Woody's horse. Pete the old prospector. And, Woody, the man himself.Of course, it's time for Woody's RoundUp. He's the very best! He's the rootinest, tootinest cowboy in the wild, wild west!

American Teen sounded interesting enough for a rental, but other than that, I'm hoping to get a few things off my Christmas wish list later this week!

And, following last weekend's other topic, WTF is up with this weather? We got 13 inches of snow late Thursday night, another 3-5 expected today and temps in the single digits with 25-35 mph winds (so REALLY cold wind chills)!!! Unfortunately, it's hard to get a cool pic of a wind chill to post....

I can easily be tempted to go for Sarah Connor, Clone Wars and I Want to Believe on BD today. I am going to try to hold out, though, for Eagle Eye on Tuesday. The Detroit area got what I'm told was about 10 inches of snow Thursday night and all day Friday (I don't estimate very well). I'll tell ya...it didn't stop people from going to the mall yesterday. Yeesh!

That was my point, Tony. Release dates are all over the place. Retailers thought these three titles were apparently getting a release this coming week...but, in reality, they all hit the stores last week (which is why I had them in last week's RoundUp!). But, they probably have better prices this coming week because they are in this coming week's flyers (which is why I decided to list this week's prices in the RoundUp as well). I think the retailers had the dates right. We recieved notice from studios that we should put several titles on shelf at the time of the notice. I think that might have been due to walmart deciding on their own to put something out a week early couple of weeks ago. I'm guessing the studio just went with it and then everyone else put it out. It may have been Traitor. after that it seems to have been do whatever you want. Burn and Death Race had a date of today. BBV put them out saturday. I don't remember last year being like this. Maybe this will start a change in the way movies are released for sale and rent.

These non-Tuesday release dates coupled with shifting release dates are nice for consumers but they are HELL on those of us trying to get correct information to readers.

Only new release for this week will be Eagle Eye BD (eventually). Otherwise, I'm be taking advantage of the 50% sale on The Wire and probably Sopranos series sets. Just waiting to see if DeepDiscount matches Amazon's matching of BB's price so I can save on tax. Posted Image

According to what I saw at Target today, they apparently have an exclusive retail window on the title. (It said something like "available exclusively at Target for a limited time", IIRC) I seem to think that they did the same thing with some 1940's action/adventure title earlier this year (something close to "Jumanji", but that was NOT the title!)

OK, I guess that's not REALLY even close to "Jumanji", but that WAS the title I was thinking about!

Circuit City was having 20% off all regular-priced DVD's and CD's storewide when I was in there yesterday. I assume it's still running today, as well.
