It is 1988 and 39 Soviet soldiers are given the task of holding "Hill 3243" against 400+ Afghan rebels. Based on actual events the film follows the Russian soldiers from boot camp to the battlefield in Afghanistan. Video: Anamorphic widescreen 16 x 9 in SD+ region 2 (PAL 576i) colors are excellent displaying the desolate mountainous landscape of Afghanistan. Audio: Russian Dolby Digital 5.1 and DTS 5.1 with English subtitles. The audio was very active with all 5 speakers cranking out detailed sound during the many battle scenes. My 100 watt powered subwoffer did an excellent job of creating realistic sound during the motor and rocket blasts. Running time: 133 minutes. 9th Company is post-communist Russia's highest grossing movie to date. This DVD can be purchased from Amazon UK and EBay.
