Installation was rather uneventful. iTunes gave me an error that it couldn't connect the iPhone immediately after the update, but when I unplugged it and plugged it back in, it mounted fine. Other impressions.

-Backups are faster but still not fast
-New preference to wipe the phone after ten failed attempts at the password lock is awesome
-Installing apps and updates is definitely faster now
-The "emergency call" bug has been fixed

No opinion on the supposed increased battery life or fewer dropped calls. I'll have to use it more over the weekend to get a feel for that.

Thanks Michael - Reports are mixed on Howard and ApplDiscussions, but it looks like a good step for many users.

I am going to update my iPhone right this minute.

Would love to hear if people are getting improved battery life
cause I have to tell you, I am "this close" to buying an external
battery pack because I can't get through a day without the battery
dying on me.

I think my battery life is only going to be marginally better, as mine is already more than halfway depleted. I have been using it heavily today, though. As for the connection issues, I had trouble retrieving my first voice mail after the update (I was eventually able to listen to it) and I did have one dropped call this evening. I later had one instance where it wouldn't connect to my e-mail server on either Edge or 3G. After I turned Airplane Mode on and off (which forces the phone to re-connect to the data network), it connected to the server just fine.

Battery life: slightly better so far (not much more than 10-20% though)

Syncing: much faster... no more 30-60 minute backup

Stability: even after using few dozen apps, iPhone seems to be relatively stable and speedy... looks like they plugged lots of memory leaks... individual apps are still prone to crash, however

Call drops: seems to be holding on to the weak signal better

New features: secure wipe and iPod UI enhancement are both nice to have, but I was hoping for few more secret new features

My co-worker noticed a better signal. More bars after install.

Battery life is noticeably better.
