hi guys my name is jim
im new here and am fairly new to home theatre systems
i have about $1000 to spend on a home theatre system
i would like to purchase a projector and HT in abox

2 weeks ago i purchased a HT at walmart for $199
philips Home Theater Audio System w/ Upconverting DVD Player, HTS3565D/37 and now it is freezing on me and cutting out on audio so i wan to return it and maybe spend a little more for something better.

as for a projector i found one on ebay
Infocus-LP500-XGA-HD-Big-Screen-Home-Theater-Projector

what do you guys think?? which would be the best projector and HT bang for the buck

thank you in advanced

That projector is AWFUL by today's standards. Also it's a 2001 model.
What is your budget just for projector?

Spend more on your speakers/audio.
You can always upgrade to a better projector later.
You can also upgrade to a better audio system in the future and put the old one in another room.
You can also build your own screen to save money.
I'm still using this projector.

Sanyo PLC-SU07N lcd projector.
Native: 800x600 Pixels
I won't upgrade until this projector dies.

Your specs:
Infocus-LP500-XGA
InFocus Projectors: InFocus LP500 DLP projector
Native: 800x600 Pixels
You should be able to get a new projector for $600 or less without buying it on ebay.

How big is the room that you will be using?

Here are some speakers as an example:

I'm partial to Mirage.

Mirage - Nanosat 5 Home Theater Satellite Speaker System - Platinum/Black - NANOSAT 5

Klipsch - Synergy Series Quintet III 5-Piece Home Theater Speaker System - QUINTET III

Yamaha - 5.1-Channel Home Theater Speaker System - NS-SP7800PN

Klipsch - Quintet SL 5-Piece Home Theater System - Gray - QUINTET SL

Newegg.com - Pioneer HTP-2920 High Power 5.1 Surround Sound System

Newegg.com - YAMAHA YHT-390BL 5.1 Channel Home Theater in a Box System

Projectors for under $700.

thank you for your advice Glenise
that was the kind of response i was looking for
well last night i made the plunge and bought a projector from ebay
(it was really late or should i say early in the morning my mind wasnt all there anyhow i hope it turns out to be a decent projector)

i purchased the Infocus IN72 that came with a ceiling mount and a 25 cable i hope i does the job looks decent to me, but then again i dont know much at this point but im guessing this projectore will be a good starting point

now all that is left to buy is suround cant decide weither i should buy speakers and reciever seperatly or HTIB.

Separate speakers and a receiver will probably give you the best sound but will cost more than a HTB.
Ex. Mirage speakers and Yamaha receiver.
