It would seem this review is woefully inaccurate. I highly suggest anyone interested in this BD read the, now locked, thread on AVS Forum concerning this disc, and other imports, where Escape from New York is suspected of being either a DVD upconvert a la Traffic or simply no better than one quality-wise.

New UK releases - Terminator 2, Total Recall, Stargate, Cliffhanger, Escape from NY - AVS Forum

For what its worth, I purchased this disc, and should have it shortly, based on the linked review, but I wish I hadn't now. I will, of course, wait to comment on whether I think the criticisms leveled against this disc are fair until I've seen it myself, but it doesn't look good. In the meantime, caveat emptor.
Universal Blu-ray Discs I will not be buying while they're offered only as Blu-ray + DVD 'flipper' discs:

The Jackal
, Out of Africa, and Traffic.

I limit my imports to things i doubt will ever show up. I have no doubt that all of Carpenter's films will show up in the US, on Blu-ray. Sooner, rather than later. But, Paul, i will be courious of what you think. Did you get The Fog too?

Rick, yeah I could've probably held off on this, but I haven't seen EFNY in a long time, and I had a jonesing to 'wash the bad taste from my mouth' that Doomsday left. Posted Image No, I didn't get The Fog. I had the previous HD DVD import, which is reviled in some quarters for too much DNR, and the new BD reuses the same transfer. Ultimately, I just don't care much for The Fog.

UHD has been running both EFNY and EFLA over the past few months. Both are fairly guilty pleasures, but I think EFNY still holds up well over the years. Oh, and I was shocked to see one of my many favorite "B" actors making a cameo in EFLA (I didn't remember it) as a mutated plastic surgeon(great stuff).

Apparently, the master UHD has been running far exceeds the one used for the UK BD. Posted Image

I guess I'm a bit confused here as to the OP's intentions. HTF is VERY open to links to other forum's reviews, but blind linking to other website's reviews without ANY personal comments seems a bit, um I dunno, what's the right word, gauche, no? If you find a good review that other people should be interested in, TELL US WHY.

I lost my signature and all I got was this Nutter t-shirt

The first post has been edited. In my opinion it violated Rule 6 of our HTF Rules. Note the bolded texts below.

Do not repost the link. Thanks.

Cees

From the HTF Rules:

6. No dealers or promotions. If you want to advertise something on HTF, we would be delighted to talk to you about it. Please contact either Ron Epstein or Parker Clack for details about rates and terms. But if you have joined HTF under the impression that it’s an opportunity to promote something at no charge -- whether it’s a product, a website or your own personal blog -- please think again. Unless you have explicit prior permission from Messrs. Epstein and Clack as owners of HTF, you may not post links or any other type of promotion anywhere on this forum. Promotion takes many forms, but it’s like pornography; we all know it when we see it. The following is a list of the kinds of things we don’t permit; it isn’t meant to be exhaustive, and just because something isn’t on the list doesn’t mean we’ll allow it:

a. Dealer advertisements;
b. Referrals to e-commerce sites;
c. Links promoting a personal for-profit website;
d. Links by staff affiliated with other DVD review sites to their reviews elsewhere (again, this will be permitted with prior permission from HTF’s owners);
e. Links to eBay or any other auction site;
f. Referrals to ebates or any similar site;
g. Links to personal items for sale (except in the designated areas).

We don’t want to prevent all links to other sites, but please use good judgment. References to information relevant to an ongoing discussion are helpful and appreciated. Using HTF to promote another site is not.

I ordered it as well sadly from Amazon UK. The version on Universal HD recently looked very good. This version indeed looks just like an upconverted dvd. After their poor release of The Fog, I should've waited.

I've sold off my disc already. A rubbish disc of the highest order, I can't believe that it's actually being praised in some quarters.

Sadly the "Duke Of New York" has passed away. RIP Mr. Hayes.

Ah yes, Bruce Campbell as the "Surgeon General of Beverly Hills," one of the better sequences in the film.

I watched this Saturday night, and, unfortunately, the comments in the aforementioned AVS thread are spot-on. There doesn't appear to be any detail present that I would consider to be above 480p, and the blacks are completely crushed.

On a brighter note, I ordered the Total Recall UK BD as part of my Escape from New York order, and it was a revelation compared to the woeful Lionsgate release. Posted Image
