Queen+ Paul Rodgers announced a bunch of details recently regarding their new single "C-lebrity" taken from the soon-to-follow studio album "The Cosmos Rocks."

While "C-lebrity" has made the rounds on the internet courtesy of a live performance of it last month on a UK TV show, the full studio recording has now hit, check it out courtesy of YouTube - Broadcast Yourself.. Here's the link;

I have to say the song has really grown on me and I definitely prefer the studio cut to the live performance. I've read reviews of the song saying it's "All Right Now" meets "Somebody to Love" and I think that's about right. The kind of combination you would have expected from the three of them getting together.

A new Official Queen You Tube Channel has been launched with a selection of (currently 19) classic Queen videos, plus a couple of Queen + Paul Rodgers live cuts and of course the performance of ‘C-lebrity’, the new single (out September 8th!), taken from the band’s performance on Al Murray’s show earlier in the year.

More and more official Queen videos will be added over time, plus, hopefully, some rare and unseen bits if possible.

I don't understand why the album is coming out in America about a *month* after the UK release but whatever, I guess I'll just buy the import as I see no reason in waiting that long.

It should also be noted that "C-lebrity" isn't technically the first single from the album though it's the first to get any real promotion. "Say It's Not True," previously only heard as an accoustic number during their live shows, was also recorded in the studio for inclusion on the upcoming album. It was reworked with Roger Taylor, Brian May and Paul Rodgers sharing lead vocals and given a Queen-ified rock ending. You can hear this version on YouTube - Broadcast Yourself. as well:

"Having between them sold more than 300 million albums, it is only to be expected that the first studio collaboration between rock giants Queen and revered rock legend Paul Rodgers in the form of the upcoming album The Cosmos Rocks is one of this year’s most eagerly anticipated.

For the music we will have to wait a little longer: the album does not reach stores until September 15 (October 14 in the USA), but for anyone wondering how Queen and Paul Rodgers circa 2008 visualise themselves the band this week revealed the cover art for the forthcoming CD album.

The thematic image is the work of award winning photographer Edgar Martins who has been hailed ‘one of the most influential artists of his generation working within the medium of Photography’. Widely represented internationally in various high profile museums, public, corporate and private collections, Martin’s awarded books and series include ‘Black Holes & Other Inconsistencies’ and ‘The Diminishing Present’, work, according to critical observers, ‘positioned in the grey area of fact and fiction, reality and allegory’.

So beyond Martin’s striking cover image, what lies in store with The Cosmos Rocks?

Tantalisingly, the Queen + Paul Rodgers’ point of view is: “People really, truly playing together in the studio – you don’t get that much these days. But, you will get it on the new Queen and Paul Rodgers album.”

The Cosmos Rocks, featuring 13 all-new tracks written and recorded by Queen + Paul Rodgers, is released by EMI/Parlophone throughout the world excepting North America where it is a Hollywood Records release."

As stated in the May issue of Rollingstone: Other tracks from the new album include “We Believe,” an “epic in Queen’s traditional style,” according to May, and “Call Me,” which he says sounds like it would fit right in on Queen’s 1974 classic, Sheer Heart Attack. Also Q+PR recorded a cover of the classic "Runaway" but it will not be featured on the album. What they decide to do with it is anyone's guess right now, a future B-side? Digital single on itunes? Who knows?

In Paul Rodgers news, Bad Company will ride again this summer -- for one night only.

The '70s rock troupe plans to reunite for a one-off show on Aug. 8 at the Seminole Hard Rock & Casino in Hollywood, Fla., the group's first performance since a 1999 reunion tour. And although frontman Paul Rodgers tells Billboard.com that "it'll be great to see the guys and play and go back down that road again just for one night," there's also a business component to the gig.

"What I'm doing is protecting the legacy that we have built ... cementing the rights to the trademark Bad Company for touring," explains Rodgers, acknowledging that the group has learned of plans for at least one bogus Bad Company planning to hit the road. "I can't really go into that because it's kind of in the hands of our lawyers at the moment. But there are a lot of things that make it necessary to reinforce our rights here. He continues, "By doing this one-night stand with Bad Company, we will be cementing our right to the trademark 'Bad Company' for touring, and anyone who attempts to challenge us and tour misuing our trademark and mislead the fans will be liable to legal action."

Rodgers will be joined in August by original Bad Company guitarist Mick Ralphs and drummer Simon Kirke, who continued the group with other singers after Rodgers left in 1982. Lynn Sorenson from Rodgers' solo band will take the place of late bassist Boz Burrell, who died in 2006.

The show will be dedicated to the memory of Steve Weiss, the longtime attorney for Bad Company, Led Zeppelin and Swan Song Records, who passed away last week in Florida. It will also be recorded for a DVD that will accompany a Bad Company compilation expected out later this year.

"I think it should be pure Bad Company and nothing else," Rodgers says of the show's repertoire. "We're gonna dig into the catalog a little bit. There are some great songs there I'd like to revisit, like 'Simple Man,' and of course the favorites, too," such as "Can't Get Enough," "Bad Company," "Feel Like Makin' Love" and "Rock'N'Roll Fantasy."

Rodgers does not expect to do more with Bad Company after this show, however, owing to his solo career and to his involvement with Queen + Paul Rodgers, which is working on final mixes for a studio album, tentatively titled "The Cosmos Rocks" and due out this fall. The group will start a world tour in September in Europe, and it recently previewed a new track, "C-lebrity," on British TV.

"We're in great shape, actually," Rodgers says. "I think it touches a lot of emotions. Every song is different from every other song, but I do think there is a very powerful emotional content in every song. I'm a great believer in variety in music, and so are the other guys."

I saw the release dates a few days back and was "royally" pissed that the US gets its release a month later. I am probably going the import route also. And I can't wait!!!

I'm still skeptical of the lyrics, but May is pretty much on fire and I like hearing Rog on the backing vocals.

It is public record that Mercury would make a point of dropping into the Marquee or any number of other London venues when Rodgers was performing with his band Free. On top of this, Rodgers has now played enough sold-out and wildly received dates as Queen + Paul Rodgers to know that it works, and that the acceptance is there. You only had to be there at last month’s Nelson Mandela 90th birthday concert to feel the heat from the audience to the band’s blinding set. I guess the one thing that really disappoints me is that Brian and Roger have no lead vocal tracks. Some of Queen's best tracks (IMHO) were by the two of them ('39, Fight from the Inside, for example) and I loved the solo albums both of them did. But I still anxiously await the CD!

"Say It's Not True" has lead vocals from Roger and Brian.......but still, I mean they have a proper lead singer, why not use him to the fullest extent?

I received info from CDJapan about a "limited edition" that lists the live Japan tour tracks as being available as a second CD, rather than a live DVD. Is this just a mistake in the listing or is Japan only getting this version? (I am not sure which territories are getting the "special edition" you listed, but my guess is that it's a UK release...)

Yeah I heard about it to but have yet to hear of any official confirmation that the Japanese version contains a CD of the DVD most other countries are getting.

America does not seem to be getting the bonus DVD anyway, at least judging by the recent press release from Hollywood Records.

Have you been hearing any of the tracks from "Cosmos" so far? Besides "C-lebrity" and "Say It's Not True" I mean. So far they've played "Time to Shine" and "Still Burnin" on UK radio (and of course it's online now, check out youtube!) and Queen's online store has 30 second snips of each track if yer curious.

Also interesting to note, at a recent rehearsal, the boys played "Shooting Star." I hope it makes it into the set list. Hell, I can't wait for the eventual live downloads like they did last time.

I have the UK CD single of "Say..." and have seen the YouTube vids for "C". I just ordered two copies of the standard CD from Amazon UK (my brother's birthday was this week and it's a belated present).

"C-lebrity" is available today (09/09/08) at Amazon's website ($0.99, track only); I'm not sure if iTunes will have it as they (again) still haven't updated the store's site and it's 11am CT on Tuesday!

It's also now available on iTunes. I wish the US had gotten the live tracks, too.

The U.S. will always get the short end of the stick for Queen Music. After The Hot Space Tour (1982) They Compleatly stopped touring the States because of poor sales with Hot Space. They didn't even try to tour with their comeback to rock (The Works) because they had bigger fist to fry (the rest of the world). So , of course we will get a C.D. a Moth after the rest of the world and probaly a tour at the end of the rest of the world tour, perhaps by Late 2009. However, I can't wait for the new Album. I love the new song and really feel that Paul rodgers, although no freddie (nor George Michael at that matter) is a wonderful singer, has a strong powerful voice that blends well with Brian and Roger, and can sing the socks off the rest of the people that claim that can sing in Rock. I was skeptical at first but when I saw them in concert at the Hollywood Bowl, They sold me. Great show, Great stage presence, and could not wait for what was going to be next. This is not Queen but It will do, pig...It will do.

I just got my confirmation email from Amazon.UK that my order shipped! I hope to have it by Friday!

Queen+ Paul's Ukraine concert is available on youtube now. (Man, still can't believe there were 350,000 people there!) While most of the set list was predictable the highlights for me were "Bad Company" (and with apologies to Bad Company the band, Brian and Roger elevate those songs to a new level,) "Bijou" which Brian does as part of his usual guitar solos and they of course use Freddie's vocals from the "Innuendo" album as part of the performance, "Say It's Not True" is performed as the album version now not the simple accoustic version. Roger's singing at the start was a bit weak but it picks up quite a bit as it goes along. "39" was pretty good now that they're doing the whole song and the entire band is joining in. "C-lebrity" wasn't good, the backing vocals were downright awful! "Cosmos Rockin" reminded me of Queen doing "Jailhouse Rock" back in the 80s, very high energy stuff.
It was officially filmed, directed by veteran David Mallet so maybe this will get an official release down the line?


I got the "C-lebrity" CD single and 7" picture disc the other day. The CD single comes in a cheap cardboard sleeve. The single debuted at #33 on the UK charts by the way.

Best Buy will be offering an 'exclusive' "ultimate fan pack" for the release of "The Cosmos Rocks" next month. Besides the CD, it will have that Japan highlights DVD (and you'll only be able to get that DVD though Best Buy,) a vinyl version of the album plus, I think, four vinyl albums of classic Queen albums like "Queen II." Hollywood Records is releasing ALL of Queen's albums on vinyl in America over the next year BTW. I'm not sure I'll be getting this set considering I'll have the album, already have the Japan DVD (in full) and frankly, vinyl doesn't interest me that much.

Oh yeah, their cover of "Runaway" is on various iTunes stores, just not the US store which sucks.



Ok, I've listened to "The Cosmos Rocks" several times now since Sunday, my brief thoughts follow:

"Cosmos Rockin" is a bit of a throwback to a 50s kinda feel of a good time rocker, the lyrics are throw-away material but it's a fun track and much like the live performance, the old guys show a lot of energy.

"Time To Shine" can, at times, be repetitive but Paul's vocals soar and Brian seems to be channeling The Edge.

"Still Burnin" is the kind of riff heavy rock track I was hoping for since I first heard them perform Free's "Fire and Water." The Red Special is oh so present in that patented orchestral way, love the solid backing vocals. I still don't care much for the sample of "We Will Rock You," it was jarring when I first heard it but upon further listens it's easier to ignore.

"Small" is a quiet, Free-esque track but definitely an uplifting song that I can see turning into the hand waving, audience participation material we've come to expect.

"Warboys" is easily my favorite song off the album. The most overtly political track here but the lyrics flow very well and the backing vocals blow away "Still Burnin," makes it very catchy but there's a menace to them as well. Paul's singing has a lot of passion here. Love it.

The next three tracks, "We Believe," "Call Me" and "Voodoo" I don't like at all. Period. I skip past them each time. "We Believe" is a cliche ridden spiritual song, "Call Me" is like "Crazy Little Thing Called Love" if you remove the boppy fun and "Voodoo" reminds me too much of Santana which just bores me to tears.

"Some Things That Glitter" is a bit forgettable to be honest. Granted it's quite pretty but it does come off as album filler.

"C-lebrity" is a fun pop rock song but as I've talked about this before (and "Say It's Not True" as well) I don't feel the need to discuss them again. I dig both songs.

"Through the Night" is my second favorite song off the album. You'd be forgiven if you thought that this was a brand new Bad Company song (though with FAR better guitar work!) and it has that dreamy somewhat ethereal feel to it that kinda takes you to a different place. Very moody and atmospheric.

"Surf's Up....School's Out" is awful. Besides the dopey title (which reminds me of the cringe worthy "Radio Ga Ga"....but "Ga Ga" was a good song so that more than made up for it) there is this stomach churning "YEEEAHHHHHHH!" at various points which makes me wanna smack a random stranger. I understand that this is supposed to be a "fun summer" song and that I shouldn't take it too seriously but c'mon, this shouldn't have been on the album at all. It's maybe B-side quality.

"Small (reprise)" is just a re-introduction of the main song and is a quiet, peaceful ending to the album which, frankly, made me feel happy and content. Maybe that sounds odd, I dunno.

Anyway, I had hoped "The Cosmos Rocks" would offer something decent but I kept my expectations low not knowing just what this combination would offer. Overall "TCR" was far more solid than I thought it'd be, out of the 14 tracks, 4 were complete crap and I don't ever plan on listening to them again but the rest were pretty damn good.

Out of *****, "The Cosmos Rocks" gets *** and a half.

Finally heard "Runaway" tonight. Actually it's not half bad, quite a bit longer than Del Shannon's original. Woulda rather had this on the album than that POS "Surf's Up" song.

The latest issue of Rolling Stone magazine (with Metallica on the cover) Queen+ Paul Rodgers get two mentions.

The new album is included in the fall music preview section along with a little write-up. No big deal? Well considering other artists like Oasis, Pink, Beyonce and Nickelback only managed to get in the "also released" section (with just an album title and release date) I'd say this is pretty good.

Then in the music reviews portion, they (gasp!) reviewed "C-lebrity" giving it a shocking 3 and a half stars (out of 5) calling the song "tough, macho gut-bust rock propelled by synthy fills - cool!"

The band also was featured on "Entertainment Tonight" this week with an altered "C-lebrity." The lyric was changed from "I wanna be a face on TV" to "I wanna be a face on ET."

"The Cosmos Rocks" debuted in the UK album chart at #5!

Mine FINALLY got here yesterday, but haven't had time to listen to it yet. I'll try to post comments tomorrow (Sat.)
