Sure, it might be a generic show, or it might be as good as (I hear) Nikita is. Remember that was a movie-turned-tv-show as well.

I recently saw True Lies on TNT or a simular station and in the title it claimed it was in hd.  If it was in HD it was one of the worst HD transfers I have ever seen and in some ways looked worse than my dvd transfer!  It looked like it was a SD transfer and not a HD transfer.  When this movie finally does end up on Bluray I hope they do a good job.

This film pops up on occasion on AMC-HD and/or A&E-HD in 1.78:1, but compressed to hell and incorrect aspect ratio = PASS.   I'll stick with my MKV of the D-Theater transfer, which at this point is at least 8 years old and STILL the best transfer available to the consumer market.   Which is truly a shame.

It's guaranteed to come out by 2014. ( that would be an anniversary year )   I'd rather they take their time and do it right than use an old outdated master and release something which doesn't live up to it's full potential.

Also in the Fox France 2013 list is True Lies, with a pic of the provisional art (this is just placement, I suspect the final version will be different) here:

Finally...some light at the end of the tunnel after what has already been a five and a half year wait since the start of this thread..."The Abyss"(1989)will ALSO be seeing a 25th Anniversary blu-ray release on the same day, according to what I've been hearing from Shawn Belston & Jamie Finn at Fox...

About freaking time. Finally, some solid confirmation on SOMETHING True Lies-BD related.

Now, if only Cameron does a commentary (preferably in the same room/building/city/state/country with Ed Harris) for The Abyss, my life will be totally complete.

Cross post in the Abyss thread (since these two films seem to be inexorably linked)... still seems like a release later this year may be in the cards...

Just saw True Lies pop up on TV in high def. Wrong ratio, of course, but it looked like they opened the matte up, i.e., more info top and bottom, same from side to side. Popped in my old DVD so I could watch without commercials, and WHAT a disappointment; the red Vette was orange, the flesh tones had a weird over-contrasty orangey look, and lack of detail was so grossly obvious that my eyes never did adjust. In any event, it means there is a high def master out there at least, so how far can a blu be behind?

The version I've been watching for years (after I finally retired the LD) is the D-Theater transfer. Only 1080i, but it looks pretty good. Plus it's in the correct 2.35:1 aspect ratio.

Would absolutely love a decent BD - a wonderfully fun film.

The BD will not be the years old, D-Theater master. At around the same time, the 1.77:1 'open matte' version was made, and it's the one currently being shown on most HD channels.

I hope for a full 4K restoration, akin to The Abyss theatrical currently airing on HD channels. That one IS the same as the forthcoming Blu-ray (give or take a few adjustments), that's a given, because it's brand new.
