Just got High Speed Internet (1 Viewer)

After almost 20 years of using dial-up, we just got wireless internet at home. I live on the edge of town, more than 17000 ft from the main phone trunk so dial-up (not even close 56K) was all we could get.
Now we have a small radio on the eave of the house which is conected to our router. There are three conected PC's and each is hitting 5 MBPS speed on-line. While its not such a big deal to most of you guys and gals, to us the web just got a whole lot friendlier.

PS, this site is just about unuseable over dial-up (26.4). but High speed, it rocks.

I remember when I got a DSL line and I couldn't believe how fast it was. Enjoy!

Here's what you do:

1) Buy a external portable 1 TB hard drive
2) Download porn



I remember the first time I got High-Speed Internet. Being able to download large files in seconds instead of minutes was sweet. No longer did I have to leave the computer connected overnight if I wanted to download a movie trailer.

Wow, I got my first computer in 1999 and I spent a month with dial-up, I remember my wife yelling at me when she was on the phone and I was trying to connect. I bought a cable modem for $200 the very next month, needless to say, I was very pleased. There is no going back now. I still have the modem, an old RCA, but it has been having problems lately so a new new Motorola Surfboard modem may be the ticket. Enjoy your new freedom....

Another way you can speed up your browsing is to use FireFox add-ons like adblock and flashblock, if you are not already. This stops these items from loading, so what you want to see loads faster. Be sure though, when you are in the market for home theater items, just turn them off and then visit the many great sponsors of HTF!

Very cool. Like many others, I have had access to High Speed for so long, I forgot that there are many out there without access to such a service.

Welcome aboard. When we switched from dialup to DSL a few years ago, it was like, whoa. Then we switched from DSL to cable, it was like, WHOA! From 32K to 768K to an average of 10-15mbps.

Yep, the surfing at home experience is awesome. The first thing we loaded up was Google earth.

As stated, there are hundreds of thousands of folks who still can't get anything other than Dial-up. Until I was told about this option, I had never heard of it. And a Satellite connection was just too expensive.

In fact, when I got EarthLink ADSL in September 2005 Google Earth was one of the first things I downloaded.

But I can say that thanks to ADSL, Home Theater Forum--which used to take a LONG time to download because of the large number of ads--now downloads quite fast. It's made it possible for me to get an iPod and use iTunes to download podcasts.

My parents live in rural northern Michigan and only have dial-up. It kills me every time I visit and try to use their Internet connection. I give you lots of credit for using dial-up for all those years. I wouldn't have the patience.

My dial-up was so slow that on forums like this, I would read through the message subjects carefully and decide if they were worth my time to click on them to read, as it took about a minute for the actual messages to come up. Oddly tonight as I'm trying to get to sleep my high-speed is going kind of slow.

Video sites are the best thing about high-speed internet. I couldn't believe when I discovered YouTube and could click on videos and have them play right away- used to be to see a video, even with high-speed, you had to wait a few minutes for it to download and then play.

Download some stuff!

Online gaming is particualrly cool to see in action. If you're into gaming. I particularly like playing Battlefield 2 since it doesn't cost anything extra to play.
