EDIT: Thanks to the moderator who moved this thread to the correct forum. :emoji_thumbsup:

Let me start off by saying that I know there is a similar thread on the SD DVD forum. However, I don't want to clog that thread up with a Blu-ray centered post. Also, I didn't see a similar thread here on this board, but if this is redundant I apologize in advance.

I'm making this thread because I know that Warner representatives do read this forum to get some feel for what releases may have a buying audience. I also know that Warner is unlikely to release any non A-list catalog titles, especially as we get to the 1970s and earlier, for a variety of reasons, from having HD ready materials to simple cost-to-profit ratio. So my list will only include a few such films no matter how much I'd like to see more (gotta keep it realistic). I also won't list titles already announced that I will gladly purchase, such as Ben-Hur, Gone with the Wind, etc.

That being said, of my 85 BD titles I own, a full 25% (28) are Warner releases, with 13 of those being catalog titles over 10 years old.

So, here's what I would purchase:

Titles I already own on DVD and would purchase again on BD:

Amadeus (preferably with both cuts of the film)
Barry Lyndon
Bringing Up Baby
Captain Blood
Citizen Kane
Contact
Dial M for Murder (if possible, with alternate 3-D version)
Doctor Zhivago (1965)
Empire of the Sun
Giant
The Goonies
The Green Mile
The Iron Giant
JFK (with both cuts if possible, though I'd rather have the Director's Cut)
King Kong (1933)
Lolita (1962)
Malcolm X
Maverick (1994)
The Mission
Mystic River
Pee-wee's Big Adventure
Rebel Without a Cause
The Sea Hawk
Singin' in the Rain
Strangers on a Train
THX 1138 (would like both versions of this film, but I know Lucas won't allow the original to be released; good thing I like the new cut more)

Titles I do not own on DVD because I'm holding out for BD:

All the President's Men
Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker (Uncut)
Batman: Mask of the Phantasm
Before Sunrise
Before Sunset
The Big Sleep
The Magnificent Ambersons (please release on BD when the eventual DVD comes out!)
Matchstick Men
McCabe & Mrs. Miller
Network
The Outsiders (both cuts if possible)
Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid
A Perfect World
Poltergeist
Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves (both cuts)
Ryan's Daughter
Seven Brides for Seven Brothers (both aspect ratio versions of the film)
Stagecoach
White Hunter, Black Heart
Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?

Hope this gets the attention of someone with influence!

I like most of those movies, but I am afraid most are years from being released on Blu-ray. If you will be happy with three or four from each group, you might see that many of them sooner.

Very good lists. Jim K, I remember reading that Clash of the Titans was geared up for a release this Fall, or Winter.

I was wishing for a new disc of Jeremiah Johnson. Now even more with the passing of Sidney Pollack.

And hell yea, it CRIES for Blu-ray!

My WB wish list. Gee, they own so much stuff that if just half of what they've brought out on DVD is redone for Blu-Ray. Let me put it this way: anyone wanna buy a kidney?

But for starters:

King Kong (1933)
Bringing Up Baby
Boys' Town
The Adventures of Robin Hood
(1938)
Gone With The Wind
The Wizard Of Oz
The Maltese Falcon
Citizen Kane
Casablanca
Now, Voyager
Meet Me In St. Louis
National Velvet
I Remember Mama
Adam's Rib
Singin' in the Rain
House of Wax
(1953, in 3-D, same for the next two)
Kiss Me, Kate
Dial M For Murder
Rebel Without A Cause
East of Eden
Giant
The Pajama Game
Gigi
North By Northwest
Ben-Hur
The Music Man
What Ever Happened To Baby Jane?
My Fair Lady
Doctor Zhivago
Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?
Ryan's Daughter
Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory
What's Up, Doc?
Cabaret
The Man Who Would Be King
The Wind and the Lion
Network
The In-Laws
(1979)
Fame
Poltergeist
Victor/Victoria
National Lampoon's Vacation
Pee-Wee's Big Adventure
Follow That Bird
(at this point, it being a long shot, I'd settle for an OAR DVD)
Hairspray (1988, I take it they'll be handling New Line titles from now on)
Quick Change

That's all I can think of, because I'll be up all night.

That's a great list, Brandon. I would probably buy the majority of those if they were released.

Matthew, your list is also full of must buy titles. I would love KING KONG and HOUSE OF WAX(along with the original MYSTERY OF THE WAX MUSEUM) on BD.

Yeah I remember that also, but I thought they were doing a remake and that's why they listed it.

Didn't buy Maltese Falcon reissue because I'm holding out for a blu-ray version.

Ryan's Daughter is no masterpiece but I would definitely buy that one.

I'd pick up about 90% of the rest of Brandon's list too.

Between Brandon, Matthew, and Jim - there is enough there (at the current catalog release rate) to take up the next 5-10 years. And what's sad is- given the limited replication and/or yearly release slots available, combined with poor catalog sales so far, It's probably going to take a good 10 years to get many of these.
Because of that I wouldn't be unsympathetic to seeing Warner hew to a basic set of priorites for these
For example

#1 Priority- Films that either badly need a remaster on DVD, or that haven't even been released in SD yet. Amongst these some I want to see the most are:
Arthur
Logan's Run
Outland
Badlands
Giant
Cabaret
The Year of living Dangerously
Far From The Madding Crowd
Barry Lyndon
A Little Romance
The Music Man
Night/House Of Dark Shadows
Showboat

#2 priority - Films that have watchable SD DVDs, but are wide aspect ratio and thus could make the most use of the higher res available:
Ben-Hur
Contact
Rebel Without A Cause
East Of Eden
Soylent Green
Mister Roberts
Contact
Where Eagles Dare

#3 Priority- Technicolor academy ratio and 1.75/.85 AR films.
The Exorcist
many MGM musicals
Gone With The Wind
Mosquito Coast
The In-Laws

The lowest Priority I would reserve for B&W Academy Ratio films. I own Casablanca, and yes it is better than it's sd counterpart- but the sd version was far from unwatchable on an HD display- and has anyone ever compared the HD of Casablanca with the SDs of The Bad And The Beautiful or other high grade discs of that nature?

Even though these are my guiding criteria, there are titles like The Exorcist, Wizard Of Oz, LA Confidential that may not fit the highest priority category, but that I don't currently own for whatever reason and am most eager to see again. But in general I would be happy to see them use these criteria.

I do notice that older B&W films look pretty good upconverted compared to say more recent films which really are a mixed bag. I really do think they do less tinkering and processing on B&W films.
