So, with the release of Season 6 I wonder how long it's going to be before Sony rushes the last two seasons to stores? I'm hoping to see Season 7 hitting stores before Christmas. I've actually been enjoying the heck out of this series and I hope Sony gets their act together and rushes into production.

Believe it or not, a European French DVD news website claims that Bewitched Season 7 will be released July 6!!! Knowing that same website was right about the Season 6 release date, there is a good chance French Europe will get Season 7 in July. I don't quite understand why region 2 gets Bewitched before region 1 since the release of Season 5?

Martin, I hope that site is right (BTW, will you post the link for the site?), though there is a problem (possibly) with July 6 being on a Sunday...I don't believe they would release something on a Sunday. Maybe they meant July 7...if that is the case and things follow how they did with Season 6, than the US release will follow approximately 7 weeks later!! Which would place it in August!!! Oh, I hope that is true!!

Out of all the DS seasons, this one is my favorite. Practically every episode is entertaining and great with a few minor exceptions (“Darrin Goes Ape” – “Money Happy Returns” anyone?). The highlight of this season, though, are the first 8 episodes, known generally as “The Salem Episodes” some of which were shot on location in Salem, Massachusetts, home of the infamous Salem Witch Trials of 1692 and Gloucester, MA, home of the Fisherman’s Memorial. During the summer hiatus of 1970 a fire destroyed the kitchen set so in an effort to be able to get some episodes in the can for the upcoming season while the set was being rebuilt (and redesigned) it was decided it was time to take the cast and crew on a vacation/trip. Such episodes in TV series generally capture high ratings and William Asher, BW’s main director and then husband of series star Elizabeth Montgomery, was aware of this from his time on “I Love Lucy” when they took their show to on site locations in California. The BW crew was welcomed with loving arms by the residents of Salem and the episodes were advertised throughout the summer.

When the season began the biggest change was the set design. Not only had the kitchen been redesigned and remodeled but the rest of the house received new wall coverings, curtains, furniture and carpeting. The red brick fireplace was replaced with a lighter brick one, most similar to the first season though not as white. Endora even comments about the redecoration as a nod to the audience that she saw the changes too. The kitchen was now bigger having a breakfast nook that extended out on the patio and opened up the kitchen more. And a new set of stairs was added in the kitchen that was supposed to lead upstairs, though it would seem that it wouldn’t be possible to do if a real house were to be built.

Another change that came this season was the addition of David and Greg Lawrence as Adam.

These twins were originally slated to play Maxwell Smart and Agent 99’s baby on “Get Smart” but that series was cancelled and so they were brought in for BW. Part of the charm of the boys is their pointy eyebrows, just the same as EM had.

Another highlight of the season was the Christmas episode titled “Sisters at Heart”. This episode has the distinction of being written by the Fifth Period English class at Thomas Jefferson High School in Los Angeles. EM and BA had heard that the kids’ favorite show was “Bewitched” and invited them to the set to see how the show was made. BA also sent over scripts to be studied. Their teacher, Marcella Saunders, decided to surprise the Ashers with a “Thank You” gift of having the students come up with their own BW script. Keep in mind, these kids were not interested in writing and were not receiving a great education as the school was low on funds. But after visiting the set and reading the scripts their writing dramatically improved. The script they came up with was the basis for “Sisters at Heart” which has Tabitha befriending a black girl named Lisa. While they are playing at the park someone overhears them calling each other ‘sister’ and they are told they can’t be sisters because they are different colors. Tabitha wishes that they could really be sisters and the outcome is that Tabitha acquires black spots and Lisa acquires white spots. The script was presented to the Ashers who were quite impressed. EM even said that it was better than some of the stuff they received from professional writers. One time BW writer Barbara Avedon was brought in to tweak it and format it for the ½ hour series. The children were involved with this script and the minor changes every step of the way. It was turned into a Christmas script and became EM’s favorite BW episode. Not only that but it won the Governor’s Choice Award at the 1971 Emmy awards.

Speaking of the Emmy’s, BW was nominated twice that year: one for Agnes Moorehead for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy (Valerie Harper won for “The Mary Tyler Moore Show”) and for Outstanding Makeup for “Samantha’s Old Man” (“Mission Impossible” won). This would be the last time BW would receive Emmy Nominations.

Here are the episodes, their original airdates and descriptions for your consideration:

Ep. #201: “To Go or Not to Go, That is the Question” 9/24/70 –

Samantha is ordered to attend the centennial witches’ convocation in Salem, Massachusetts which she doesn’t want to do knowing that it’ll upset Durwood. He agrees to let her go if he can go with her. This causes fury in the upper ranks of witchdom and the High Priestess Hepzibah pops in saying that she is going to dissolve the mortal marriage. When she sees that Samantha really does love Durwood, Hepzibah changes her mind and decides that she will observe the marriage for one week to see why it is that Samantha loves him so much.

Jane Connell portrays Hepzibah. She has been seen on BW before as Queen Victoria and is quite popular in the Broadway enthusiast world.

Ep. #202: “Salem, Here We Come” 10/1/70 –

High Priestess Hepzibah has set up court at 1164 Morning Glory Circle in order to determine whether Samantha’s mortal marriage will remain en force. When she decides she wants to see what Durwood does for work she has Samantha accompany her to his office where she meets Mr. Hitchcock. Samantha casts a spell on him to be quite charming to Hepzibah who falls for him. When the end of the week has arrived Hepzibah decrees that the dissolvement of the marriage is cancelled but that she will still be watching. She also says that Durwood cannot come to the convention but when Samantha finds out that Mr. Hitchcock will be in Salem at that time, Hepzibah says Durwood may now come.

Mr. Hitchcock is played by Cesar Romero, familiar to TV audiences as the Joker from “Batman”. He had also been considered to play Samantha’s father when BW first began.

Ep. #203: “The Salem Saga” 10/8/70 – As Sam and Durwood fly to Salem, Endora pops in on the wing of the plane just to advise that Esmeralda finally showed up to take care of the kids. Of course, this upsets Durwood, even more so when Endora pops in the plane and zaps another passenger ahead to Boston. Once in Salem, Endora goes to attend to convention duties while Samantha and Durwood go on a tour of the House of the Seven Gables. While there Samantha is pestered by a possessed bedwarmer who follows her around the house and blocks her passage into other rooms. When she is finally able to leave it flies out to the car and follows them back to the hotel where it shows that it dislikes Durwood. The tour guide gets the police on the case and a local bum, who had seen the bedwarmer attacking Durwood, tells the police where he saw it going. Samantha insists that the bedwarmer is actually a transformed warlock and Durwood demands that she transform him back. When she can’t do it, they are in a real bind as the police have shown up.

Nancy Priddy plays one of the airline stewardesses. She is Christina Applegate’s mother. The mayor of Salem also declared October 8, 1970 as "Bewitched Day" in Salem. It's also interesting to note that Salem's zip code is 01970.

Ep. #204: “Samantha’s Hot Bedwarmer” 10/15/70 –
Samantha tries hiding the bedwarmer in the closet but when the police arrive it bounces out of the closet. Durwood is arrested and the bedwarmer is confiscated, but only after Samantha asks it to go with the policemen. She then goes to the Witches’ Convention where she asks Endora to cast a spell to bring the witch/warlock who created the bedwarmer to the convention. After awhile, who should show up but Samantha’s cousin Serena. It turns out that during the Salem trials Serena had changed an amorous warlock named Newton into the bedwarmer when he wouldn’t leave her alone. He has been following Samantha thinking she is Serena. As it was so long ago, Serena can’t remember the spell she used to change him so Endora sends her back so she can relive the incident. Once she has the spell she returns, gives the spell to Samantha, who changes Newton back. In court, Durwood’s case is dropped as the evidence is missing and the wild story the policeman tell about the bedwarmer convinces the judge that maybe all the facts aren’t there.

Ep. #205: “Darrin on a Pedestal” 10/22/70 –

Durwood and Samantha’s sight-seeing plans are interrupted when Samantha is called to a special meeting of the Witches’ Council. Serena pops in and says she’ll go sight-seeing with him. When they happen upon the Fisherman’s Memorial statue Serena becomes smitten with statue and brings him to life, infuriating Durwood who demands that a statue be up on the pedestal when he counts to three. His wish is granted, though he is now the statue. Serena and the sailor go off to enjoy each other’s company. Meanwhile Larry and client Mr. Barrows have come up from Boston to try and get Durwood’s opinion on the Barrow’s Umbrella campaign. They decide to follow Samantha who was going to meet Durwood for lunch after her witch duties. En route, she stops at the Fisherman’s Memorial and discovers that it is now her husband. She tries to delay Larry while she finds Serena and demands that she return the real Fisherman to his post and bring back Durwood.

During the BW convention of 2006 in Salem I found out that Mike Linquata, the owner of the Gloucester House, makes a cameo appearance in the episode. He walks out of his restaurant with the hostess at that time. Later on, at the dinner scene, he is seen sitting at a table behind Serena and the Fisherman with the lady. They are totally not acting and focusing on the action being filmed. It was also revealed that Salem State College freshman Gary Richard was a stand in for DS and Robert Brown on the far shots of the statue. He also helped the police keep the crowds at bay. Peter Alachi, a resident of Salem, is the one who discovered this and he has written an awesome book about BW filming in Salem. You can contact him through his site at Bewitched in Salem!.

Ep. #206: “Paul Revere Rides Again” 10/29/70 – Larry gives Samantha and Durwood a Paul Revere teapot which they add to the many souvenirs they’ve all ready purchased. Esmeralda pops in with an update about the kids and offers to take all the gifts home. Larry later tells Durwood that he wants to give the teapot to the new British client, Sir Leslie Bancroft, who is a Revolutionary War buff. Samantha contacts Esmeralda asking her to send the teapot back. Esmeralda goofs it and instead sends Paul Revere himself back including his horse. When Paul hears Sir Leslie talking about “invading America” he takes it to mean there is going to be a British attack and he rides out as he did in 1776. He is jailed for causing a public disturbance and Sir Leslie is highly incensed. Samantha explains things to Paul and she gets Esmeralda to reverse the spell. When the teapot returns as the spell is working, Paul says that it is one that he was working on that he never got to put his mark on. When Durwood gives it to Sir Leslie as recompense for all the confusion, Sir Leslie refuses the gift and gives it back to Durwood saying he can’t accept an original, which knocks the wind out of Larry who had thought it was a reproduction.

Bert Convy plays Paul Revere. He would later appear on Password Plus playing against EM.

#207: “Samantha’s Bad Day in Salem” 11/5/70 –

While at the convention Samantha runs into Waldo, a warlock who had quite a crush on her since they were little. He still does as he has made his own version of Samantha to be with. Later, while sight seeing Larry sees Waldo and ‘Samantha’ and assumes she is having an affair. He tries to tell Durwood who doesn’t understand and when Samantha, Durwood and Larry are all at dinner, Waldo shows up. Larry leaves not liking the uncomfortableness of the situation. When Durwood tries to go after Larry to see what’s wrong, Samantha tells Waldo to get lost and she goes after Durwood. Waldo zaps up his ‘Samantha’ and Durwood returns not knowing Samantha had left. When he sees the two of them he begins to believe Larry and loses his cool. Waldo turns him into a crow and Durwood flies back to his room. When Samantha finds out the condition of her husband she’s not sure what happened and takes him to the convention to demand whoever it was to change him back. Waldo does it and Samantha and Durwood return to the hotel where they find that Larry is now a crow as he had caught Waldo and ‘Samantha’ again. They decide to have Waldo make his Samantha look like Serena and they change Larry back explaining to him that he saw Waldo with Serena.

The elevator scene was actually shot in the Hawthorne Hotel. The elevators still look the same to this day.

#208: “Samantha’s Old Salem Trip” 11/12/70 –

Samantha and Durwood come home early from Salem when the Witches’ Council orders Samantha not to be seen in public with her husband. When Esmeralda discovers that the Witches’ Council is ordering Samantha to return, she believes she won’t do it and therefore decides to cast a spell sending Samantha back there. She gets the place right but the time wrong as she sends Samantha back to Old Salem. When Endora arrives looking for Samantha she discovers what Esmeralda has done and advises that Durwood will have to go back and get her as she (Endora) is too busy and both of them do not trust Esmeralda. She gives him a magic coin that he is to have Samantha place on her forehead and repeat an incantation as Samantha is without her memory. She sends him back and Samantha will have nothing to do with him, especially when she takes his advances as lewd acts. Later, when one of the magistrates breaks his quill pen Samantha offers him the ball point pen Durwood had given her. The magistrate takes it to be a product of witchcraft and both Samantha and Durwood are imprisoned on charges of witchcraft. While in jail Durwood slips Samantha the coin and tells her it is magical. She then tells the court about it. Durwood denies being a witch but says he can prove that she is a witch with the coin that she has. The court commands her to do as he says and when she finishes the incantation her memory is restored. She tells the court that she really is a witch but that none of the previously accused were and she performs feats of witchcraft for them, the final being taking herself and her husband back to the 20th century.

#209: “Samantha’s Pet Warlock” 11/19/70 – Ashley, a warlock former boyfriend of Samantha’s, pops in to rescue her from her mortal existence but she refuses him. He decides to pop in on Durwood to see what type of mortal could capture the heart of a witch such as Samantha. While spying Ashley finds that Durwood and Larry are trying to get Mr. Gibbons to sign on. He is a dog food company owner and Larry tells Mr. Gibbons that Durwood owns a dog and when both men try to describe the dog they come up with completely opposing breeds, colors, and hair length. Mr. Gibbons is intrigued by the sounds of this dog and insists on seeing it later that evening. In a panic, Durwood and Larry go to the dog pound in the hopes of finding the strange animal they described and as luck would have it, they do. Of course, it is Ashley in disguise. When they take him home Samantha sees him change his food into a T-bone steak and knows it is Ashley who won’t change back. Mr. Gibbons shows up and Ashley locks himself in a closet and starts whining. When he is released he growls at Durwood which leads Mr. Gibbons to believe Durwood isn’t a very good dog owner. Before he leaves Durwood tells Mr. Gibbons that they have a new idea for a dog food patty in the shape of a T-bone with a bone chew toy in the middle. He says that Ashley was growling because he was hungry and Durwood didn’t feed him until Mr. Gibbons showed up. Ashley then realizes that Samantha really does love Durwood and he leaves.

#210: “Samantha’s Old Man” 12/3/70 –

After Samantha says she will love Durwood regardless of the fact that he will age and she will not Endora makes Durwood age 50 years. In order to hide from everyone Samantha and Durwood go to the drive-in movie after breaking their bridge plans with the Tates who have also decided to go to the drive-in. When they meet Samantha at the snack stand they are confused as to why she is there when she had said that Durwood was sick and couldn’t make it to bridge. She tells them that she is there with his grandfather, Grover and introduces them. They decide to set Grover up with Louise’s Aunt Millicent. Durwood tries everything he can to dissuade Millicent from being interested in him but she won’t let up. Samantha changes herself into an old woman who claims to be Grover’s wife and that finally dissuades Millicent. Later on Durwood begins to wonder what really will happen when he is older and Samantha is still younger. She says that she will just age herself with magic and she shows him what she’ll look like. When Endora sees her daughter looking twice her age she won’t have it and demands Samantha change herself back. Samantha says only if she changes Durwood back which she does.

The makeup in this episode was nominated for Outstanding Makeup at the 1970 – 71 Emmy awards.

#211: “The Corsican Cousins” 12/10/70 – Endora wishes that Samantha could be more carefree like her cousin Serena and casts a spell whereby Samantha will feel everything Serena does. In the meantime a prominent client of McMann and Tate’s insists on getting his wife’s approval of Durwood’s wife and she goes to meet with Samantha. As Serena is currently drinking and partying, Samantha acts the same way and really offends the client’s wife and her friend. Once Samantha finds out what is going on she demands her mother take the spell off and then she and Durwood find that the client was part of some shady dealings anyway so it was a good thing Samantha offended the wife.

#212: “Samantha’s Magic Potion” 12/17/70 –

When grumpy client Mr. Harmon rejects Durwood’s campaign without really listening to him, Durwood thinks Endora is up to it again. He decides he wants to fight witchcraft with witchcraft. Samantha doesn’t believe her mother has done anything and she gives Durwood what she calls a potion and some magic words and advises him to go into the client again with the same ideas. He does and captures Mr. Harmon’s attention. Later Samantha reveals that Durwood did it all on his own, that the potion was nothing more than orange juice.

#213: “Sisters at Heart” 12/24/70 – When Tabitha and her black friend Lisa, who is sleeping over, are playing at the park calling each other “sister”, someone there tells them that they couldn’t be sisters because they are different colors. Tabitha wishes so hard that they really were sisters that it becomes a reality in the form of black spots on Tabitha and white on Lisa. Before the spots happen Mr. Brockway, the bigoted client of McMann and Tate’s, decides to check out Durwood’s home life before he signs on and he meets Lisa, who answers the door when noone is around. He believes that Durwood is married to a black woman.

Nothing Samantha can do will get rid of the spots and when Lisa’s parents come to pick her up amidst a company Christmas party at 1164, she begins to panic. The purpose of the party was to get Mr. Brockway to sign and when he sees that he made a mistake about Lisa he is ready to sign now knowing that Durwood is married to a white woman. Larry, not liking that idea at all, decides that he doesn’t want to work with such a racist person and tells Mr. Brockway so. Samantha twitches Mr. Brockway into seeing everybody as black and he leaves to go think the night’s events over. Meanwhile Samantha finds the reason for the spots and tells Tabitha and Lisa that they can and are sisters by virtue of being part of the human family. Tabitha takes back her wish and Lisa has wonderful tales to tell her parents. Mr. Brockway later returns and says that he realized he is racist and he wants to overcome that.

The extras about this episode were mentioned previously including the fact that it was EM’s favorite episode out of the whole series. This episode is also the last Christmas themed episode of the series.

#214: “Mother-in-Law of the Year” 1/14/71 – Endora comes up with a new idea for Bobbin’s Bobbins called “The Mother-in-Law of the Year” as an alternate for Durwood’s lame idea about Secretary’s day. When she sees that Mr. Bobbin’s hates Durwood’s idea to she presents her idea to Mr. Bobbins through Durwood and he loves it! He insists that he meet Endora considering she must be something spectacular for Durwood to have suggested such a thing. When he does meet her she casts a spell on him to become enraptured with her. He says that he wants her to be in the commercial for Bobbin’s Bobbins, a live commercial to be done during the Sweethearts Parade. When commercial time comes up Endora says she had forgotten about the commercial and that she is going skiing with a warlock. Samantha tells a nerve-wracked Durwood that she’ll just change herself into Endora and do the commercial. All is well up until a few seconds before air time when a furious Endora shows up insisting that Samantha stop being her. Samantha won’t do it and she starts to do the commercial as Endora pops in as Samantha trying to ruin the commercial. After a few switchings between mother and daughter, Durwood insists it was part of a special effects commercial which Bobbins loves! Both EM and AM give spectacular performances in this episode.

#215: “Mary the Good Fairy” Part 1 1/21/71 –

When Tabitha loses her tooth, the good fairy comes for it and bumps into Durwood who was up for a midnight snack. When he starts hollering he wakes Samantha who surprises him by the fact that she knows the good fairy, whose name is Mary. Samantha and Mary renew acquaintances over some brandy, which Mary has never tasted before, but loves. Before they know it, Mary is crocked and she still has many children to visit. Samantha says she’ll do the job for her for the night. In the morning Mary refuses to don her wings again as she says she’s tired of the job and now that she has Samantha’s powers she is the only way that Samantha can get rid of her wings. Meanwhile, Mrs. Kravitz had seen Samantha flying out and she sends her nephew Sidney over to investigate for her. As Samantha is dealing with Sidney Mary sneaks out the door…

Mary is played by Imogene Coca, famous for her part on Sid Caesar’s “Your Show of Shows”

#216: “The Good Fairy Strikes Again” Part 2 1/28/71 - …and ends up at the Kravitzes where Gladys is more than willing to give her brandy in exchange for her secrets. When Mary leaves Gladys’ she is totally loaded and is picked up by the police. Durwood pays for her bail and finds out that Larry and the client are coming to the house to see how Durwood’s work on the campaign is going. Durwood hasn’t had time to work on the campaign for the Reduce-alator, a big sauna type suit. Worried about Larry and the client will think of his wife running around in a fairy costume Samantha comes up with the perfect solution: she’ll wear the suit while they are there. Something breaks in it causing Sam to overheat forcing her to take the suit off revealing her costume. Durwood says it’s for the campaign which the client loves. Mary, though, is furious that her wings are now wilted not to mention the dress is stained by Blood Marys that Samantha had spilled and she demands to switch back, which pleases everybody.

#217: “The Return of Darrin the Bold” 2/4/71 –

Endora decides that the way to overcome Durwood’s objections to witchcraft would be to turn him into a warlock. She enlists Serena’s help and sends her back to the time of Durwood the Bold to administer a potion that will turn him into a warlock simultaneously turning Durwood into a warlock. When Durwood flippantly states that he wishes he had a beer, one pops into his hand. He and Samantha think Endora is behind this and when Durwood inadvertently pops off to a bar Samantha finds out what is going on from Serena. She goes back in time to cancel the potion on Durwood the Bold and has a bit of time doing it as he wants to mess around. She finally gets it done and returns to the present to find her husband back to mortal.

This is the second time that Durwood the Bold has been seen. The first time he was played by Dick York in Season Three’s “A Most Unusual Wood Nymph”.

#218: “The House That Uncle Arthur Built” 2/11/71 – Uncle Arthur has found what he believes is true love in the snooty witch Aretha whom he intends to marry. The only problem is that she hates his practical jokes and he has told her he has given them up. But they seem to get the best of him until he decides to release his practical jokes to the custody of Samantha’s house. Weird things start happening like a bucket of water appearing and pouring itself on Durwood and even more weird things when an uptight client, his wife and Larry show up. Uncle Arthur returns and when he sees what an uptight snob Aretha really is he decides he doesn’t really love her, that he loved his practical jokes even more and takes them back.

This is the last appearance of Uncle Arthur for the series.

#219: “Samantha and the Troll” 2/18/71 –

Samantha discovers her powers are out of commission and Serena suggests she go in for a 10,000 spell overhaul, which will leave her incommunicado with her family for 12 hours. Serena says she’ll watch the kids while Samantha is out and sends Samantha on her way. Tabitha and Serena play Hide-N-Go-Seek with Tabitha’s toys, one of which keeps hiding even after the game is over. It is a hairy little monster. Meanwhile Durwood finds out that Larry has invited a new client over to discuss the campaign. Durwood asks Serena to please fix a dinner for the night since Samantha is gone. She agrees but only after a kiss. When the client shows up Serena (as Samantha) flirts aggressively with him. Samantha finally returns and takes her rightful place at the dinner saying that she is in sensitivity training and meant nothing by it. Just then the hair doll comes out of hiding and Samantha explains that he is part of the new campaign for long hair.

Bob Cummings plays the client. He had his own TV show during the 50s.

Felix Silla plays the furry Troll. He is best known for playing another furry creature, Cousin Itt, on the Addams Family.

Diane Murphy, who once upon a time played Tabitha, plays the Raggedy Ann doll.

#220: “This Little Piggie” 2/25/71 –

Durwood can’t decide between two ideas for an ad campaign for Col Brigham’s ribs. Endora says it’s because he is indecisive and casts a spell to make him even more so. Durwood is in such a state of affairs that he comes home, which takes him forever as he couldn’t decide which way to go. Samantha demands her mother remove the spell. She does but in arguing with Samantha she says that Durwood is pig-headed and makes him literally so. And to show the whole world he is pig-headed she zaps him to the top of the roof. Just then Larry and Col. Brigham are arriving as they want to get on with the campaign. Once Samantha gets Durwood off the roof she says that he was demonstrating his idea to have a rotating pig icon on the roofs of the restaurant and use the song “Old Macdonald’s Farm” for the jingle. Endora relents at Samantha’s insistence and returns Durwood’s head to normal.

Herb Edelman plays Col. Brigham. He is familiar to TV audiences as Dorothy’s ex-husband Stan on “The Golden Girls”.

This episode also gets my vote for one of the creepiest as the pig head on Durwood seriously looks like a real pig!

#221: “Mixed Doubles” 3/4/71 – Louise gives Samantha a book titled “Marital Unrest” which causes Samantha to worry about her friend’s marriage. Her worries cause her a restless night and when she wakes up she finds herself in Louise’s bed…but Larry treats her as though she IS Louise! She freezes him and finds that she still looks and sounds like herself and Louise is nowhere to be seen so she pops home to see what’s going on there and finds that Durwood thinks that Louise is Samantha and so does Louise! Endora suggests that they contact Dr. Bombay who at first mis-diagnoses her and when Samantha reveals to Durwood what has happened they decide that they must get Larry to come over to their house with Louise (who is really now Samantha) to make sure nothing funny goes on. Meanwhile, Dr. Bombay finally discovers that Samantha caused the switching because of her worrying about Louise and he cures them.

#222: “Darrin Goes Ape” 3/11/71 – When Durwood rejects Serena’s peace offering of a portable TV that runs on witchcraft, she vows to get revenge. When Samantha goes shopping with the kids Serena pops in and changes herself into Samantha. She tries to get Durwood to see that his rejection of the gift was hurtful as Serena was trying to be nice. Of course Durwood is even more mean in his comments about Serena and so she changes back to her normal form but changes Durwood’s form to that of a gorilla as he was acting beastly. Mrs. Kravitz hears the gorilla yelling and calls the police who in turn call a gorilla trainer who claim that Durwood the gorilla is missing from his place. In actuality he wants a male gorilla who can mate with Tilly, a female gorilla. They come out to the house to pick him up. When Samantha comes home Mrs. Kravitz tells her all about the happenings and Samantha pops over to the gorilla farm and springs Durwood and she gets Serena to change him back.

Herbie J. Pilato, author of the definitive BW book “Bewitched Forever”, names this episode as the very worst of the series. I would have to agree.

This is also the last episode of the series that we see Abner Kravitz though his wife will appear once more.

#223: “Money Happy Returns” 3/18/71 – Durwood finds an envelope containing a large amount of cash in a taxi he had been in and feels that Endora zapped it up for him as they were earlier arguing about him being too cheap to buy his children a real swimming pool. He goes home and argues with Samantha about it who zaps the cash away and takes herself to Louise Tate’s for a shoulder to cry on. Meanwhile, the real owner of the cash, Mr. Kosko, who deals in the underground, shows up to claim the cash with his muscleman. Durwood tells them he doesn’t have it and they threaten him with his life. Durwood finally gets Samantha to come home. She, at first, doesn’t believe his story about being in danger but realizes he is telling the truth when Mr. Kosko pulls out a gun. She zaps up the money and zaps his gun into a play one. At the same time she keeps them at the house by zapping up police sirens which the real police hear and show up at the house.

This episode gets my vote for “The Worst Hairdo” for Samantha. I don’t know what they were thinking to let her go on camera with her bangs in curls like that with the rest pulled back but it is horrible and makes me long for the days of seasons one through three.

#224: “Out of the Mouth of Babes” 3/25/71 – Durwood has a big day of golf planned until Larry comes over and insists that he work on the Mother Flanagan’s Stew campaign. At the same time Endora has popped in to take Tabitha to the Unicorn Handicap and Durwood forbids it. Endora thinks he is acting childishly and turns him into a 10-year old boy. While he waits for Endora to return to change him back Samantha suggests he go play with Tabitha in the park. While there he meets some other boys who play basketball with him and he proves to be a great player. One of them, Herbie, comes over to ask if Marvin (Durwood’s name while he’s a boy) can play in the championships the next day and while he is there he tries the Mother Flanagan’s Irish Stew, which tastes terrible. Durwood doesn’t want to be part of advertising something so horrible and when Larry brings over Mr. Flanagan, Durwood and Samantha decide that it’ll be easier to tell Mr. Flanagan that his stew is terrible if it’s coming from a boy and so Marvin tells him and Endora changes him back.

#225: “Sam’s Psychic Pslip” 4/1/71 –

In the middle of relining all the kitchen cupboards Samantha finds that Mrs. Stephens is in town and wants to go shopping with Samantha. Not wanting her mother-in-law to see the kitchen a mess she magically finishes the job, something which Durwood sees as he is walking in about to give her something. He tells her he is ok with her using the witchcraft in that case and decides not to give her the gift until she finally gets it from him. It turns out to be a bracelet in honor of her not using witchcraft for 30 days, which she would’ve reached that day. She doesn’t want to keep it knowing she really didn’t reach the goal but he insists she keep it. She really feels guilty and begins to hiccup which starts producing bikes of all styles. Just at that moment Mrs. Stephens arrive and they explain they are on a new exercise kick, even though one of the bikes is a motorcycle. While Durwood takes her upstairs to see the children Samantha calls Dr. Bombay who says that the bikes are a product of her feeling guilty and so he incants a spell to cure her. When Samantha leaves to go shopping she hiccups and the mirror in the hall disappears. Serena pops in to babysit and Durwood asks her to get a hold of Dr. Bombay again. Meanwhile Samantha continues to cause things, specifically gold things, to disappear when she hiccups and when Dr. Bombay finds where she is he advises her that he used the wrong spell to cure her and he reverses that and applies the right cure.

#226: “Samantha’s Magic Mirror” 4/8/71 – Esmeralda is nervous to renew acquaintances with her old beau Ferdy when she hears that he wants to see her again. She feels that she doesn’t look as good as she used to not to mention her spells are so sloppy. Samantha decides to give her a boost of confidence by giving her a good old-fashioned mortal makeover but she zaps all the mirrors in the house to show Esmeralda a younger more beautiful. Ferdy shows up and the overly confident Esmeralda tries to zap up some Scotch on the rocks for them and instead gets a bagpipe playing Scotchman on top of a pile of rocks. Samantha sees this and starts taking over the witchcraft for Esmeralda. Unbenownst to Esmeralda or Samantha, Ferdy has been getting help with his magic. When Samantha gets tied up on the phone and can’t help Esmeralda and Ferdy’s nephew pops out when spotted by the police, things go very awry with all the stray magic. Esmeralda and Ferdy are relieved to find that the other was experiencing the same type of trouble and they announce that they are engage and pop off together.

Ferdy is played by Tom Bosley who would go on to play Mr. Cunningham on “Happy Days”.

Nancy Priddy plays Esmeralda’s mirror image. She is Christina Applegate’s mother.

#227: “Laugh, Clown, Laugh” 4/15/71 – Endora accuses Durwood of having no sense of humor and therefore gives him an awful one in the form of him telling horrible jokes at inopportune times, especially when he is trying to come up with a campaign for the grave Mr. Jameson. When he finds that he cannot control his jokes and that Mr. Jameson and Larry are getting annoyed with him he goes home immediately. Samantha demands that her mother remove the spell which she does but then casts another one which makes him laugh whenever he hears bad news. Larry comes over with Mr. and Mrs. Jameson and Durwood immediately begins to laugh when he hears of Mr. Jameson’s bursitis. Samantha immediately starts laughing and telling funny stories which cause the Jamesons to laugh and she saves the day.

This is the last episode of the series that Mrs. Kravitz appears in.

#228: “Samantha and the Antique Doll” 4/22/71 – Durwood’s mother comes to visit and brings toys for the children including a spinning top for Adam and an antique doll for Tabitha that once belonged to Phyllis’ grandmother. Adam decides he’d rather play with the doll than the top and Samantha tells Tabitha to let him. Mad about not having her doll to play with and thinking that her grandmother and mother are too engrossed in conversation to notice anything Tabitha hexes the doll to float over to her. Phyllis notices this and Samantha has no other explanation other than to say that maybe Phyllis subconsciously willed the doll over to Tabitha. Phyllis decides to study up on this type of thing and decides that she really does have some sort of supernatural power and believes she gets the power from the doll. When she tries to show Frank and Durwood that she has the power by making the doll float again it won’t work. Samantha thinks the only way to cure her of thinking she has the power is to scare with something more. When Frank tells Phyllis she should let it go she tells him he’s being stubborn as a mule and at that point he changes into one courtesy of Samantha. Of course Phyllis believes she did it and she says she isn’t sure how to turn him back and thinks that the grandmother who gave her the doll would know. Samantha suggests they have a séance and she twitches up a fake ghost who tells Phyllis that she needs to drop it and that the way to turn Frank back is by love. Phyllis tells the mule-ified Frank that she loves him and meant him no harm and Samantha changes him back.

This episode is the last we’ll see of the elder Stephenses and it’s nice that the original Frank (Robert F. Simon) is back to play the role.
This also marks the end of the Seventh Season.

If Sony were to give us the extras that go along with this season they would include the following:

•The Salem commercial that speaks about how a nice witch named Samantha visited them.
•The spirited Durwood commercial.
•The short version of the above commercial
•EM introduction where she says, “Hi. This is EM. Stay tuned for a new season of BW in color.”
•EM introduction where she says, “Hi. This is EM. Stay tuned for BW, next in color.”
•The American Airlines ending credits to some of the Salem episodes.
•Opening and closing sponsor credits including Ban Roll-On, Bayer, Exedrin and Oscar Mayer.
•The EM introduction and ending to “Sisters at Heart”.
•EM introduction where she says, “Hi. This is EM. Stay tuned for BW, next in color.”
•Emmy clip of “Sisters at Heart” receiving the Governor’s Award.
•EM’s RARE interview on the Merv Griffin show speaking about “Sisters at Heart”.
•Newsreels from the local Mass. News from when the cast and crew were in Salem to film.
•Maybe a featurette about the real Salem Witch Trials.
•The TV Land dedication of the Samantha statue in Salem.
•The episode of “FANatical” devoted to BW when they filmed at the ’06 BW convention that I attended:)

David, I can't say it enough... your overall critics about every seasons of Bewitched are truly well documented. Thank you for doing this. :emoji_thumbsup:

As for your comment about the French web site news, I wanted to link it to my comment the other day, but the site was temporary off line.

Here it is now:

Ma sorcière bien aimée - Saison 7 | DVD Séries

You might be interested to know that this site announces some extras on that Season box set. In fact, the extras are listed for the first 5 episodes:
  • To Go or Not to Go, That Is the Question
  • Salem Here We Come
  • The Salem Saga
  • Samantha's Hot Bedwarmer
  • Darrin on a Pedestal

Of course, what would be Season 7 without the Salem trip? It was the first time that the Stephenses were out for adventures. They even did it a second time for the launch of Season 8 in Europe. That also was pretty cool.;)

Like you David, Season 7 is my favorite Season of all.

And to prove this, I have a picture of myself standing in front of the House of the Seven Gables... this was taken in the early 90's

You're quite welcome and thank you for posting the site! And the pic!! Wasn't it a strange and awesome feeling to be there at the House of Seven Gables?!

Now about those extras...if I understand correctly they are listing the first five episodes AS the extras? Or are there extras in addition to the episodes? I guess I'm kinda confused...

I am sure that is a mistake about the extras. Here's a link to another French website announcing the DVDs and they list all the episodes, but nothing about any extras. Come on, Sony is NOT going to put extras on at this late stage. At best, they MAY include them in a Complete Series set since that was already done for Japan.

Ma Sorcière Bien Aimée - Saison 7

Also, here is a comparison of French to U.S. release dates so that we can see how long (or rather SHORT) a wait we'll probably have this time for S7:

Season 6 -
France Wedesday 4/9/08
U.S. Tuesday 5/6/08
(U.S. 1 month later)

Season 5 -
France Wednesday 7/4/07
U.S. Tuesday 7/10/07
(U.S. 1 week later)

Season 4 -
France Tuesday 1/9/07
U.S. Tuesday 10/24/06
(U.S. 2 1/2 months earlier)

Season 3 -
France Wednesday 3/22/06
U.S. Tuesday 3/21/06
(U.S. 1 day earlier)

Season 2 -
France Tuesday 11/8/05
U.S. Tuesday 10/25/05
(U.S. 2 weeks earlier)

Season 1 -
France Wednesday 8/24/05
U.S. Tuesday 6/21/05
(U.S. 2 months earlier)

And who knows, at this pace, they could finish the series by year-end.

You may be correct John, but remember that Sony has always been concerned about disc space and Season 7 holds only 28 épisodes. That make more room for extras. There will be even more room for extras as Season 8 concludes this series with only 26 episodes.

But, frankly... Like you, I'm also pretty sure that there will not be extras for the first 5 episodes on set 7. This must be a mistake.

I tend to think they will have some extras on season 8 as a capper to the set. I am looking forward to season 7. I've said it before. In my eyes, I think Liz Montgomery got sexier as the seasons progressed. In the earlier seasons, she was cute and pretty but in the early 1970's seasons she was sexy. I think it was the distinctively different clothing that was a bit beyond 1960's TV housewife.

John, thanks for posting a comparison of the dates. I guess there is no rhyme or reason to how they do it. But if it does happen that Region 1 gets an August release that would make it perfect to release Season 8 in December, just in time for Christmas!

I also think that they won't put any extras, but like Michael said, put some on the S.8 release as there are less episodes and more room not to mention I would think they would need to give an added incentive to buying that season.

I really hope they just release the Complete Series set like they did for Japan but include the openings and such...but that's such a pipe dream....

Michael, ITA about how more beautiful EM got as the show went on. I'm looking forward to Seasons 7 & 8, where we see her in longer hair and hipper clothing- that's the Samantha I remember as a kid (mind you, this was while the show was still on ABC). I particulary love the cloth choker she wore later on, it accented her beautiful neck. Is it my imagination, or was Liz Montgomery braless in the later seasons? Sure looks that way!

Charles, no it isn't your imagination: Liz did go braless in later years. And I also love the choker. Very sexy.

David, I meant to tell you earlier, beautiful work on the Season 7 summary! Not that you ever do anything less than beautiful work on these posts.

Martin, very nice pic at the House of Seven Gables. I'm itching to go back to Salem again, but it's out of the question this year. I'll have to make do with watching S7!

I would love for them to put the extras on S8, but I really doubt they will. They'll save them for a "bonus disc" on the Complete Series set, like they did with Seinfeld.

Thank you, John!

So I've been told by those in "high places" that all though Sony US DOES have plans to release Season 7 it's currently not in the works, which it would have to be for an August release...what a bummer...but good to know they are still going on with BW.

I've been thinking that either the Salem Chamber of Commerce or the Hawthorne Hotel or a combo of both should get with Sony and in addition to Season 7 release an exclusive DVD of the Salem episodes available only for purchase while in Salem, or even just at the Hawthorne. They could include the following:

•EM episode introductions where she says, "Hi! And welcome to a new season of BW, next in cullah!" and "Hi! Stay tuned for BW, next in cullah!"
•The Salem commercial that speaks about how a nice witch named Samantha visited them.
•"Darrin Stephens - he's got the spirit" commercial.
•The shorter version of the previous commercial.
•The American Airlines ending credits to some of the Salem episodes.
•Newsreels from the local Mass. News from when the cast and crew were in Salem to film. Maybe also interview people in Salem who remember when BW came there.
•Maybe a featurette about the real Salem Witch Trials.
•The TV Land dedication of the Samantha statue in Salem.
•The episode of “FANatical” devoted to BW when they filmed at the ’06 BW convention that I attended. They should also contact the folks at Fanatical to maybe put together a whole new featurette featuring the material not used...and they filmed A LOT!!

I think this would be a big money maker as I know there are many people who wouldn't want the entire Seventh Season but just these Salem episodes.

If you look at the links posted the one Martin posted says it will be out July 6, and the one John posted says June 6... I just hope we don't have to wait until next year in the USA... we are growing anxious to see the final seasons... it's been 3 years since they started releasing them and they were doing 2 a year now it's down to one a year... so please hurry up... Season 7 is one of the best... Salem Saga is my favourite :)

I picked up Season Six today. We'll be watching some of those tonight. (Yeah, I know this is the Season Seven thread, but I couldn't find a Season Six thread.)

Well, June 6 has come and gone and it looks as though that site was mistaken as when you click on the purchase button it gives you three different buying outlets including Amazon.com France and none of them have it:frowning: What a bummer!!

Now I don't know French that well but I was assuming 06 Juin 2008, the date given by the site John shared, was June 6 and 06 juillet 2008, the date given by the site Martin shared, was July 6, which wouldn't make any sense at all as it is a Sunday.

I just wrote to the internet team in charge of the releases news for DVDSERIES.NET. I pointed out the fact that July 6 is a sunday and that could not be a regular release date.

If they answer me back, I will gladly keep you informed.
