The harmless joke, to brighten the after hours lounge has been removed. The intention was to raise a smile not hackles.
I'm surprised and a little disappointed though. I'll PM it to anybody who wants a laugh.

Uhhh, this is a violation of so many HTF rules, I don't know where to start (although starting with politics and religion is one place).

I don't think it's such a big violation. While the setting of the joke is religious, it's not like he's advocating a particular religion. Whether you like Tony or not, no matter what your political stance, the premise of the joke is funny. After all, once any campaign is over, the promises are soon forgotten.

Jeff - since there are no smilies in your post I guess I have to assume you are being serious?
If my JOKE has offended you in any way then I apologise, but I have to say it is just so sad that some of us are now so politically correct that even a simple JOKE is cause for concern.

Every other forum I have posted it on has resulted in 'rave reviews' - although other than here, none of them were outside the UK??

It didn't offend me at all. I don't take personal offense at any joke (as long as it is funny). But others do and while not overtly religious, it was certainly more than overtly political. Even though I sympathize greatly with the sentiments expressed in the joke, HTF rules ban that type of stuff (with good reason).

Perhaps I should have typed "Joke" as part of the subject line and then more serious readers could have just not opened the post.

I only informed you of the rules. I am not offended, I am not "PC" (as a matter of fact I am as anti-PC as anyone could ever get) and I am not trying to stifle your free expression or even comment on the quality or comedic value of your joke. I am just speaking from experience that jokes such as these (i.e. overtly political) have been found to be against the rules. Instead of taking my information at face value, you seem to think I'm persecuting you. I am not. Although I do find it ironic that those accusing me of being unjustifiably "offended" by a joke are the one's who are acting the most offended.

Me offended by a satirical look at socialism? If you do a search for all my posts containing the word "socialism" and "socialist", you would see that me being offended by a critique of socialism is the pinnacle of humor present in this thread.

It is often not the joke per se but the inevitable political or religious argument that will follow certain jokes that makes it necessary to include them in the general ban on political and religious posts. This isn't some arbitrary rule, it is the fruit of long and bitter experience with the kind of flame wars this sort of thing once produced here, and observation of other boards that were either destroyed by such arguments or taken over by the to the point where only a minority of posts concerned the ostensible subject of the site. Ron and Parker decided they didn't want that here and drew a very clear line to stop it. There is no, "But it's just a joke" exception because there is always somebody who is going to be offended or use it as a jumping off point for a discussion of the serious issues being mocked and then we're off to the races.

Hell, it is bad enough with all the pseudo-religious fights we've had around here over things like Mac vs. PC, DD vs. DTS, HD-DVD vs. Blu Ray, wooden blocks, high-priced cables and green magic markers. (Not to mention laserdisc vs. DVD, once upon a time...)

Listen to Joe . . . He knows of what he speaks. After all, he's been a member since Dec. 1969.

There is no exception for "jokes". The reasons have been well explained by previous posters.

I started when home theater consisted of a 16mm projector and screen, and we exchanged posts by mailing 8" floppys to one another so that we could load them on our IBM System 360s at work.

Actually a few of us ended up having our join dates pushed back to 1969 when the Forum ate some accounts following a software upgrade a couple of years ago. Personally, I like it. I usually just tell people I'm a time traveller.

We had a campaign rally at our church and the P.A. system had Bose speakers. Is that ok?

The joke made a comment about all politics, at least that's how I read it. I found it non-partisan and the religious aspect to it was only to serve the purpose of skewering all politicians.

It was funny. RIP to Stewart's joke.

So what? HTF Rule 4 is simple and straightforward. There is no exception for jokes, and there is no exception for "non-partisan" observations.

We really don't have that many rules here, but the ones that we do have aren't subject to personal interpretation or "I think it should work this way". They're also not up for debate; see Rule 20.
