Amazon returns with a BOGO sale on HD DVD. Don't dawdle, you never know when Amazon will pull this sale off their website.

Is this a BOGO format battle?

I wish they had a bigger selection on these things, the most I can ever find is 1 title I'd want that I don't already have.

I know what you mean, but keep checking back, Amazon has a way of switching out titles, and adding new ones to the mix.

they finally went live.
Sale pages have been up for hours but the discounts weren't working.
They are now though.

There isn't anything I really wanted either, but that didn't stop me from finally upgrading The Jerk and blind buying Casino. $8 for an HDM is even more impressive to me than the $5.50 bin at wal-mart.
Should they add Sneakers at some point, I'll likely get off yet another order.

Aughhh!!! First I get tempted by their Blu-Ray BOGO sale (4 different times!) and now this???? My wife's gonna smack me! Posted Image

I guess it was inevitable. Getting both Blu-Ray and HD-DVD players sealed my fate.

I too am disappointed in the selection of titles available. Maybe I'll check back later in the week or over the weekend to see if they've updated to anything I want.

They've updated. Only slightly though.

I keep checking back to see if they've included Billy Madison. A guilty pleasure if there ever was one.

"I AM THE SMARTEST MAN ALIVE"!
Universal Blu-ray Discs I will not be buying while they're offered only as Blu-ray + DVD 'flipper' discs:

The Jackal
, Out of Africa, and Traffic.

I was not blown away by the selection either. But did not feel bad about picking up 2 Steve McQueen classics. I refreshed the page several times while shopping and did see some new titles pop up.

After buying the A3 last week, a box of cigars, and 4 HD DVDs in one week, I'm gonna have to tell the wife to not get me anything for Christmas. Or we can pretend that all my purchases were really gifts.Posted Image

Oh man....for me this means buying some movies that I love, but didn't necessarily care about getting in high def, like Blazing Saddles and Enter The Dragon. Or just some stuff I wanted to try like Reds and Lake House.

Plus I have that early adopter discount still, so in the last few days I've bought ten discs in both formats for about 10-11 bucks apiece. Awesome.

quite nice. I picked up Casino, Goodfellas, Polar Express, and The Game. Not the greatest titles on their availability list, but for under 40 bux, how can you go wrong?

This allowed me to add eight HD DVDs to my collection at about 10$/per disc (Lethal Weapon, 12 Monkeys, The Dirty Dozen, Space Cowboys--the weakest in the list, but said to be visually good and I had fun watching it at the cinema--Superman II, The Richard Donner Cut, Bullitt, Deliverance and The Fountain--not everyone's cup of tea but I'm a fan of the director and I enjoyed this film). Not a bad way to start my collection (considering the first 8 DVDs I bought probably cost me 3 times as much not accounting for inflation).

My choices may not end up being "demo" material, but they are all movies I'm willing to re-watch and I did not own them already. Since my policy is to always favour the best format I can get for anything I don't already have, this sale made it that much easier.

Here's the key to self-control with all these b1g1 sales: NO UPGRADES! Unless the SD edition is REALLY bad (for example, I upgraded my non-anamorphic Criterion Life of Brian and seriously considered upgrading my old pan&scan copy of The Jerk).

I'm doing pretty well. I think I might've double-dipped on Unforgiven though -- can't remember if I ever got the 2-disc SE. . .

Dang, I dawdled! Should have ordered when 12 Monkeys and Animal House were on the list!

I ended up with Reds, The Fugitive, Deliverence and Unforgiven.

Good advice. In my list of purchases, I did not "double dip", though I plan to do so for things I have on VHS (yes, I still have some and I still watch some) that I have not upgraded to DVD yet. My SD DVD playback is very good, to me (Lost, for example, looks nearly indistinguishable from the HD cable broadcast) so I will only be upgrading certain films that demand such (LOTR, for example, whenever it comes out).

Well I checked back, no new titles that I notice but the selection dropped from 3 full pages down to 2. Looks like another BOGO that I won't be able to take advantage of.

I even ordered a few combo-releases (yuk!) from this sale.. Posted Image "The Hitcher" is still available, but "Good Shepherd" is now gone.

These sales are crazy, but goddamn I have many HD-titles now. Posted Image
