I don't want to sift through multiple ad books for one item again and again. What stores are having the best deals on a Toshiba HD-A2 this week? Anyone know?

Thanks...

I don't think I'd bother getting an HD-DVD player without 1080p no matter how good the deals are, and I doubt any of the better players will be on sale much. Instead, they'll market the cheap shit to people who don't know the difference or don't have 1080p TVs.

I don't remember seeing anything about deals on the A2 anywhere. Couple of places will apparently have decent deals on the A3. Amazon actually has right now what I think is the best deal going on the A3 -- $199 with 2 movies in the box (300, Bourne Identity), plus you get to pick 3 free instantly from Amazon, plus the usual 5 free by mail.

No more A2 deals that I'm aware of but Sears will have a nice deal on the A3 for $160. However, like David mentioned above, the best deal right now is the Amazon deal. Basically you're buying 10 movies and getting the player for free! :)

And don't worry about the whole 1080i vs 1080p. It's mostly marketing hype.

What do you mean? Is it not best to have the highest quality output if your TV supports it?

Yes. But 1080 horizontal lines is the best we have in practice.
And there's no difference between 1080i or 1080p. That's how it's transported. The image of both are exactly the same. After all, 1080 = 1080.

Unless you have an older TV, in which case the 1080p image could be worse. On most new sets, they are identical, though.

Nothing "shitty" (why use that word?) about any of the two.

Which of those three hd's is the best model? I'm contemplating getting in on this deal and would welcome some suggestions. ;)

I forget already where I saw/read/heard this....

But something about $100.00 taken off the A3 at checkout.

Would that make any of the deals listed above a LOT less?

Any major bargains on those Xbox HD-DVD drives? I've heard they can be hooked to a PC. I'd almost rather get a cheap one of those than commit to a specific Toshiba model right now.

Just as an FYI Viper, both my TV setups only have 720p, so the extra 1080p of the A3 doesn't matter to me. And I have older receivers so the loss of DTS over toslink is a step down for me.

So I'm looking for an A2 and not an A3 ;)

PS - Someone is selling an XBox HD-DVD in the Hardware section just now. Go check it out...

The A3 only spits out 1080i and 720p, not 1080p (have to go up to an A30 or A35 to get 1080p24fps).

I kick myself every day missing that great Walmart deal on the A2. I'm hoping some more pop up so I can pick one up. Got the 98.00 ready.

I'm still kicking myself for not buying more than one. Wehn I bought there were 16 left and no one looking at them. When I went back later they were all gone. Happy with the one I got though:D

Jack,

you forgot to mention the Amazon deal for the A3 @ $187.04 with the 10 free movies... I might actually go for this one my self!

Later,

Roy C.

Just be aware that the Xbox drive doesn't support any of the HD audio codecs, you'll get the HD picture, but not sound.
