Hi, I'm a noobie, though a long-time lurker (five years I think).

A couple of weeks ago I jumped on the HD DVD bandwagon with the $99 HD-A2. I brought it home but was too tired to open it. My dad, a tech savvy guy, surprised me the next morning by having hooked up and ready to go, component, optical, etc...

One problem...he threw away the box, UPC and all. I just realized this a couple of days when I printed out my 5 Free HD DVDs coupon and saw it required the UPC. Is there anyway I can still get my 5? We still have the receipt. If I send it in will they just throw it away? Any help for a new HD adopter? :frowning:

I would call the 800 number. It can be found in the thread about getting your free movies. They may be able to get your serial number and verify that you bought a new player. I don't know if it will work but it is worth a shot.

Oy veh. Never throw out the box. Ask your dad what would have happened if the player had been dead out of the box? Typically you need the original packaging if you want to return an item.

The box electronics comes in is generally worth about $40. That's the price difference you would get in 2 or 3 years between selling an item naked vs. packed in the original box.
