Just got the UK Blu-Ray set of the BBC's Robin Hood season one. It played back perfectly on my US PS3.

Now the packaging says 1080i which would equate to how the episodes were transmitted on HD in the UK - 1080i/50

Now if this is the case then it suggests that the PS3 can handle 50i natively and maybe 25p without a firmware update - good news all round for this great series.

EDIT - a senior BBC broadcast engineer has confirmed that its 1080i/60 (well 59. something) which at least means its safe for US consumption :)

Hey Duncan,

Thanks for the heads-up. :)

Do you have a Review of either of these 2 BBC series (or have a link to a good review of them)?

I'm curious what other BBC series on Blu-Ray are available and what are worth getting. ;)

Thanks.

Havent seen any BD reviews but both Robin Hood and Hotel Babylon have been out on DVD for a while. Season 2 of RH is about half way through transmission at the moment over here with season 2 of HB being on in early 2007 - dont know if there is to be a third season.

Bleak House is coming to BD in the new year and I suspect season one of the Doctor Who spin off "Torchwood" will be released to coincide with the broadcast of season 2 early in 2008.

The BBC are producing more and more material in HD now and their test HD channel is poised to become a "full" channel in the near future.

Given the general all round quality of the BBC this is great news - just hope that the forthcoming specials and the eventual 5th season of Doctor Who will be in HD!
