RAWHIDE - S3 ? (1 Viewer)

I note that Paramount are boxing Rawhide S1 & S2 as a box set for release shortly.

Last time they did this with HGWT it spelled the end of the series. Hope Rawhide is not going the same way.

Whenever a series (Rawhide, Perry Mason) starts having their seasons spilt in two, it usually spells the end. Reason #1, a lot of people get turned off with having to spend twice as much for a single season, and #2 is it takes the studio twice as long to release the show to DVD. As soon as Paramount announced that Rawhide season 2 would be spilt, the writting was on the wall.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for Hawaii Five 0. We will be getting season 3 in January, and so far, none have been spilt.

It does seem as though going the split season route often spells the death knell of a series, "The Big Valley" being a prime example. Fox didn't even have the decency to finish S2. That's why I was pleasantly surprised that Paramount announced the second half of "Rawhide" at least. But another eleven announcements to see the series through to completion? (Assuming, of course that the 13 episode S8 is not split in half). Spread over six years at the current rate? Highly doubtful. I just hope we get at the very least, another full season.

On Amazon, I see they're packaging volumes 1 & 2 of season 2 together. Where did you see them offer season 1 together with season 2 (vol 1 & 2), as a package?

I'd love to see the third season come out. Rawhide was best during its first three years, with Charles Marquis Warren at the helm. It was a different show when he left; it felt different. Gone was the realism and the sense of struggle between man and his elements. Warren did a great job; much better than what he did with the first few years of Gunsmoke. I'd be pretty much satisfied to see them get through season 4. The first season after Warren left wasn't too bad. It was downhill after.

IMDB.com shows that Warren produced 53 of the 84 episodes comprising S1-3. I'm not even sure who the other producer(s) were who stepped in from time to time, if indeed IMDB is accurate here.

The "realism and sense of struggle between man and element" as you stated is what really works so well for me with this exceptional western. This is truly one of the few tv series that in a vicarious and almost imperceptible way draws me into the drama, giving me that feeling that I'm experiencing it for myself. I'm really looking forward to watching the remainder of S2 over the Christmas season.

Perry Mason seems to be doing OK. The second 1/2 of season 2 is coming out this month. That makes 4 volumes put out so far. I can sort of see its season 1 done the 1/2 season set. It was a long season, but now we will be getting down to normal seasons with 3 (i believe). I would like to see full season sets, and a bit faster than 2 volumes a year.
I bought season 1 of Rawhide, and loved it, but skipped the half season 2 set.

I think Perry Mason is doing more than ok. I believe for a classic series it is a top seller. It has huge name recognition and a built in audience. The only reason they are releasing it in 1/2 season sets is to maximize its profit potential. I don't think you will ever see it in full season releases, but the studio will absolutely release the series in total.

It's what works for me as well. This is why it's really painful seeing episodes from later seasons. There's one in particular from the seventh season, a two parter, "Damon's Road," where everything's played as a broad joke, really a complete parody of the show's earlier years. No realism whatsoever. The show should have been cancelled before it resorted to that. The seventh season was produced by Bruce Geller, who I thought more of before watching that.

You probably wouldn't want to see "Escort to Doom," then, although my copy of this eighth-season episode has become somewhat of a guilty pleasure that I watch with a "MST3K" mindset. Rip Torn (as a Native American) is doing everything he can to keep from busting out laughing as he mumbles/grumbles a lot of stereotypical "heap big"-style dialogue throughout. They didn't even bother to reshoot close-ups where Torn is grinning a bit as he talks, even though his words are supposed to be completely serious.

Yeah I think money has allot to do with split seasons, but it seems to affect B/W tv shows more than color tv series. I read somewere that some studio schmucks claim B/W tv transfers are harder to do , fewer people who are expert in B/W video transfers , etc.... to justify the split season rip off. Im In the minority here and have been unimpressed with Rawhide (brought full season 1 set few months ago) I find Rawhide my self FF threw epoisdes. 30 min scripts pad out to 60mins , so so to bad acting, watching power lines and planes in the background and watching the show trek over the same back lot sets/ranch land in the san fernando valley episode after episode, Rawhide except for the opening credit has been a disappointment. I gave up on it around the six episode becaused sadly it bores me which is a surprise. Im shocked personaly because I love Have Gun Will Travel (hopefully is released past season three) and Wanted Dead or Alive and personally can't wait till some one does some decent season sets of the Rifleman. Ive never bought the studio claims for split sets, it just more studio gouhl bs and they wonder why there is so much bootleg dvds of shows around?

If they have to do split seasons, why do they have to release them 6-7 months apart? Why not release both volumes the same day or 3 months apart?

If studios are going this route they should at the very least release the second half of a particular season inside of 1 month and then say start the next season over 3-6 months span. To me, this is the most befuddling and annoying consequence of splitting seasons. Whether released as a full season or a half season, the time table for getting these out is about the same--effectively doubling the time to get a 4 season show out in its entirety.

Has anyone Picked up S2 Vol 2 yet, I'm wondering if any B&M will even carry this today. And the Previous Poster that mentioned Rawhide and siad there is bad acting and stretched out plots what show were you watching...

I'd like to purchase this in time for Christmas at the $28-$30 using either DD or Amazon (with free shipping) but I'm not sure if it's even possible. Wal-mart.com is showing this at $29.88 currently--does that mean I can walk into a B&M and request the online price if it should happen to be listed for more? Will they even stock it I wonder? (Understand that this is a "Gilmore Girls/Veronica Mars" customer base I'm faced with here--in spite of the fact that here in N. Texas we're right close to the Sedalia Trail).

How about CBS/Paramount announcing Mod Squad and Love American Style Vol. 2 today for March? People only had to wait 3 months for the former and 4 for the latter. Compare that to 7 months for Rawhide Season 2, Volume 2, and I doubt we'll ever see a season 3. They really know how to stick it to fans of classic B&W tv shows.

Yep, I noticed the timing of the releases as well. What's up with that. We are having to wait 6 months in between releases of THE FUGITIVE, the quintessential TV drama. And 7 months in between RAWHIDE releases. But we can get a quick turn around with these two shows. Definitely adds fuel to the fire about Paramount treating their b&w series differently than their color series.

at least Paramount is getting things out - black and white or otherwise. They've got five classic titles hit the shelves already in March. While it would be nice if they got things out faster, I'm not ready to complain.

If anyone happens to find S2 vol. 2 at Wal-Mart or Sam's Club I'd sure like to know about it. Best Buy's price is likely to be $34.99. I won't even bother with my local Border's outlet--it's likely to be something like $49.99 there. Normally I'd just place the order with Deep Discount but I'd really like to get this for Christmas and I doubt they could deliver in time.

I'm going to Check Circuit City on my Way home. If not there I might just wait until I get some Gift Cards for Xmas and Get it at Best buy then, don't really want to pay $34.95 for it. If I order online It won't be here till after Xmas Anyhow.
