Hi,

for all those who have a PS3...

when I power up my PS3, the startup screen now has a purple background rather than black. I have upgraded to v1.90 but had been playing a lot of SD-DVDs lately and hadn't noticed the purple hue.

Is this a function of the new firmware or do I have something wrong with

1. PS3
2. HDMI cable
3. Samsung DLP tv (4 mths old)

?

Thanks for the help!

It has to do with the upgrade.....I updated my brand new PS3 just recently too and noticed the change immediately. You can always change the background if you don't like all that purple (ie:download a photo) since it now has that capability with the upgrade.

My PS3 startup screen background color has always seemed to vary tremendously in color and darkness each time I boot it up. Sometimes it's nearly black and other times it's a medium purple or blue. I just thought it varied according to time of day-lighter in the daytime and darker at night?

Steve,
I'm thinking the same thing. Mine varies quite a bit.

I thought the background was supposed to change as a part of the seasons and time of day. Or are you people talking about something else?

That's odd, I assumed that it was the upgrade to 1.90 that caused it. Mind you, before the upgrade I was always playing it in the evening and it was always black. Just turned it on (10:45 pm) and the background is black as night now.....I guess it does depend on the time of day. Pretty cool feature I must say. Posted Image

CRyan is correct, it changes based on time of day and time of year. Mine was blue in the mornings in December.

Mine's black right now; but was purple before the sun set. I've only had my PS3 played a few days and I'm already in love with it (exchanged my Sony 300 for the PS3).

Yes, it changes according to the time of day. Always has.

But I think a recent firmware updated may have expanded the color spectrum.

The background of the XMB changes colours based on the month. Each month will have different colours associated with it.
