Xvid and DVD players

With a number of Xvid players entering the market. I am interested to know peoples experience with them. One of the major problems with hardware running software codecs must be the speed at which the hardware is outdated by the software being updated.

For example I have a Oppo DVD 981HD player, which is Xvid certified. However I dont think it can play anything above standard def Xvid (ie it wont play the Xvid HD formats. I tried last night on a file 980 x 528 with a bitrate of 283 kbps and it wont output the video (you can hear the audio ok) however it worked fine with a file that was 608 x 366 pix and 141 kbps

I wonder if firmware updates will fix this in future.
