Hi

I am looking at getting a new sub
Room size is L=16' W=8' H= 7'

I have a front firing Energy 8.2 that I like, but need one for my upstairs stereo - so this one will be moved up and the new one is for the HT

The room is carpeted - Berber style

What impact would this have on a downfiring sub?

I am looking at the Energy 10.3 (downfiring) and an SVS PB10 NSD

I am looking to spend about $500-$600
The Energy would need to be cheaper for me to buy it over the SVS
Like $450 or under

So - would it be OK with the carpet?

If your concern is that the it is downfiring into the berber, I don't think you have a lot to worry about. When you hear 'sub' info, you are largely hearing the effects of the sub on the room not what is directly radiating from the driver.

The berber will have little or any effect on low end.

I have an SVS 16-46 PC+ on berber carpet and have no problem with the sound produced.

I run dual 20-39 PC+ cylinders on berber carpet, also with no problems.

Well I found an Energy 10.3 in a store tonight - $650 CDN - ugh
Sales guy said he could knock it down but... the PB10 NSD is $580

I had a line on a Paradigm PS1000 v3 - only $425, but now I am reading reviews about excessive boominess...

The SVS is front firing, which I definitely prefer

Any comments on my upcoming purchase?
