Having observed how long it takes for some families to settle into their seats--getting everyone's jackets off, making sure everyone has their popcorn, sodas, candy, etc.--it probably takes just as long to leave the theater. Not to mention that with the film running it's dark, probably crowded, the kids are uncooperative because they don't understand what's going on, and those that do are trying to watch the screen since they know it's something "forbidden."
Not to mention the time it would take someone to find a staff member, tell them the problem, and get them to find and relay the issue to the projectionist, and for them to stop the film.
I can completely understand how they saw the first 10 minutes or so.
