Maybe it's me, but lately there hasn't seemed to be as many 80's slasher flicks released on DVD. There is still a fair few I am waiting for to be released, but as of yet no joy. I thought I would start this thread just to keep an update on some of the titles, whether it be rumours or solid information.

Here's a little run down on some that are yet to be released:

CURTAINS http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0085385/ - It is set to be released on Region 2 in April, but from what I hear, It might as well be a bootleg as the company is not very respectable.

Final Exam - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0082378/

Slaughter High - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0091969/

The Burning - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0082118/ - HD version has been seen on tv, but no DVD as of yet.

Humungous - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0082537/

Sweet Sixteen - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0083146/ - A release is supposed to be coming from Code Red.

If you have any news on any of these or any titles you want to add, feel free.

I'm a big fan of 80's horror and would like to see these on DVD sometime soon, too. And how about Night School? And while not technically "slashers", how about Night of the Creeps, Blood Beach, The Boogens, Spasms, and Without Warning?

Actually, we are surprisingly close to having just about all of the classic 80's flicks horror out on disk, but the last few stragglers are making me a little antsy.

I am all for those movies being released, I forgot about a couple of those.

Does anyone know who owns the rights to some of these movies? I know the following may be right

Curtains has some license trouble. I believe the producers own it, as Anchor Bay had trouble getting the rights

Student bodies and Burning are Paramount and MGM, But how about the others like Night School, Final Exam, Slaughter High etc??? Any ideas folks?

According to Code Red DVD, Final Exam is owned by the mob, and nobody wants to deal with them. At least that's what they told me when I requested it for a possible future release. Take it for what it's worth.

I understand that Lion Gate now owns a fair few Vestron titles etc. Does anyone have any contact information, as I would like to ask about Slaughter High?

^ Yep. The other MGM-owned slasher that I really want is the factually based creeper, The Town That Dreaded Sundown.

I didnt know Killer Party was with Warner. Thanks Chaps.

We are getting to the time of year when we should be hearing some more October/Halloween release dates. I am hoping we hear some good slasher titles announced. If anyone hears any news of any horror related titles, post them if you can. We are off to a pretty good start with The Burning. On a side note, I'm not one of these people who wont buy DVDs because of art work, But I do like decent art work on a DVD release and I have seen some cracking fan based artwork for The Burning. I am interested to see what the DVD cover will be.

There is some crappy releases out there but not a solid release. With talk of a remake on the horizon, there should be a decent release eventually.

News on The Burning and more from Bloody-Disgusting :

"MGM Home Entertainment has announced a few new DVD titles for September 11, the first being the highly demanded director’s cut of Stuart Gordon’s From Beyond, which has it's premiere last year on Monsters HD. The DVD will include a Gordon commentary with other extras to be announced. Coming to DVD the same day is the uncut version of the '81 slasher film The Burning, which starred Jason Alexander, Holly Hunter and Fisher Stevens. That movie will be presented in a remastered hi-def widescreen transfer with all of Tom Savini’s gory FX intact, accompanied by commentary by director Tony Maylam and a featurette including a Savini interview and behind-the-scenes footage of his gory handiwork, according to Fangoria. Lastly, the new Return of the Living Dead DVD will include a cast/zombie commentary and more."
