Just bought a 50" SXRD set. What is a good upconverting DVD player to go with it? Also are there any list of setting to go by?

Any advices?....

I have the OPPO DV 981-HD and it is very sweet. It looks very nice on my 60" SXRD.

Hi Bejoy

If you want something that is more convenient and has an excellent picture, the Sony 5 disc DVD changer is a very good upconverting DVD player.

I'll second the Oppo. They are quite good.
HT: Emotiva UMC-200, Emotiva XPA-3, Carnegie Acoustics CSB-1s + CSC-1, GR Research A/V-1s, Epik Empire, Oppo BDP-105, PS4, PS3,URC R-50, APC-H10, Panamax 5100 Bluejeans Cable
System Two: Marantz PM7200, Pioneer FS52s, Panasonic BD79
(stolen) : Marantz SR-8300, GR Research A/V-2s, Sony SCD-222ES SACD, Panasonic BD-65, PS3 60G (250G)

Depends on price you have in mind.

<$100 Panny S52
<$150 Oppo 970 (971 has MB issue for your set)
<$400 Toshiba HD-A2, plays HD-DVD as well as upscales very good.

Opp981 is a fine machine, but I couldn't justify spending $220 or whatever on a regular DVD player.

I'll triple the recommendation for the Oppo 981. I have a 50-inch Sony SXRD and the Oppo looks fantastic via HDMI, set to upscale to 1080p.

Added bonuses: It's multi-region, does excellent PAL to NTSC conversion, and there is no visible layer change. Really, a great player and solidly built.
