JAW DROPPING. RAZOR SHARP. DETAIL that will blow your mind.

It's the crispest, clearest, most 3-dimensional HD material I've ever seen. On *either* format.

This is Sony's first BD title using AVC (MPEG4) and my head is spinning. WOW.

Maybe a sign that Sony can learn a lesson?

Let's hope!

It is good to hear the Sony is beginning to take the time with their releases to produce quality product. I may have to reevaluate my stance on not purchasing Sony releases.

This only heightens my intense excitement for Casino Royale AVC on a BD-50. AHHHHHH!

Let's see how they do on Casino Royale before we forgive them just yet. Since CR was shot on film, the telecine and inherent film grain may give them problems, but this is an encouraging sign.

I just went to order this film, and ouch, a 39.00 retail price. Sounds like Sony is taking Fox's pricing to heart.

Yes.

Not on par with Nemo or the Shrek movies, but I'd say it's on-the-level with the Ice Age films (if not just a tad lower). Definitely heads and shoulders above crap like The Wild.

"The Wild" also was a Blu-ray 1080P AVC MPEG-4 disc via Buena Vista and was given review comments like "Crispest", "Clearest", "3D" look, when it first was screened. Had to buy it to judge for myself and I would have to agree.

I saw "Open Season" in the theater with my granddaughter and I'm now glad that I did for comparison purposes.

The "Ant Bully" was in 1080P VC1 and "Ice Age: The Meltdown" was Fox 1080P MGEG 2, but also had stellar moments as well.

Open Season on IMAX in 3D was amazing. Good movie, funny, better than I expected.

As for the picture quality, not surprising - pretty much all CG films look amazing, as the transfer bypasses a telecine transfer.

Ice-age Meltdown looks a bit soft to my eyes in Blu-ray. It's MPEG2 compressed on a single layer disc. Not sure if that's the reason why, but it definitely lacks the snap, detail, and 3-dimensionality of Open Season. Not even close!

Come on folks. Can ya tone down the superlatives and accolades just a bit?

I’m waiting for the format dust to clear a bit and for cheaper units with 7.1 analog outs, but it’s getting harder and harder not to rush out for a BD unit after reading posts like this. I guess I could just stop logging on… Naw!

When we saw CR in the theaters last month, I noted that the B+W intro was EXTREMELY grainy, no doubt on pupose stylistically but I'm sure the "grain is BAD, I HATE grain" crowd will go nuts with it and bash away...

Well folks, I popped in Open Season in my player this morning to see what the fuss was about.

(whew)

It does indeed have the sharpest and most 3-d image that I have seen yet on BR, more-so than The Wild. In short, the image I was seeing was incredible. This was a very colourful/bright film with an awful lot of "wow" moments. The level of detail beats anything that I have seen yet so yes, this would make a great demo disk if you are so inclined.

Is this a BD50 or BD25?
