For some reason I wasn't able to get in the room. Is it safe to assume that there'll be a transcript of what took place?

Some excellent information there!
Usually, Ron will post a transcript in about 8 or 10 (working) hours.

what's this rumor (on AVS) of the TREK films coming "exclusively" to HDdvd this year...?

Sounds good. I have only seen the Trek films once or twice but I will definitely check it out again on HD. Also looking forward to what else was said in the chat whenever the transcript is up.

Universal has big slate that is unannounced.
Deals made at CES with hardware manufacturers and software suppliers.
xBox update to address VGA issue, and HDMI being discussed.
1080i and 1080p same on a 1080p display.
AACS secure for existing disc owners.
Region coding not planned.
600 total titles by end of year.
THD will encourage cheaper HD players to sell.

Looking forward to the transcript. I couldn't get in to the chatroom. Socket errors out the wazoo. Glad to read some of the details.

While I was generally pleased with waht came out of the chat, one topic that seemed to have totally sidestepped was the substantial number of A titles that will be exclusive to BD only, THD notwithstanding.

It's true that a THD player will address the issue, however, it necessesitates yet again another hardware expenditure, which makes me wanna just say..."ARRGGHH."

yes but who cares. It will come to bd. There is only ONE exclusive studio to HD DVD.

Also 600 titles? Where are the announcements. At CES, it was announced for 300, now doubled?

Sounds like vaporware to me

600 titles total, I understand this includes the ones that have been released already -- more than a hundred.

Yes, the number of new releases mentioned at CES was 300 indeed. The total number of 600 is fully consistent with numbers mentioned before.

What we will see of it all in real life - that's something to wait for and watch.

Considering the PS3 is $499, the above statement is totally misleading. It could have been better stated as:

"For instance, if you have a THD disc in your hand and have not bought a player yet, wouldn't you rather get the one that is $499 that outputs 1080p, does SACD, has titles from 5 of the "big 6" studios and plays games vs the one that is $499 and only ouputs 1080i, only has titles from 3 of the "big 6" studios, and does not do games?"

The $999 price tag thrown around by HD-DVD supporters was correct about 6 months ago, but they're still using it as an argument. Anyone who follows this stuff at all knows the PS3 is $499 and standalones have been sold for less than $600 within the last month.

Last I read was that the statement you quote was refuted and that Meridian will be supporting HD-DVD.
