So, I've lately been working my way through some books focused on the philosophical aspects of art, most of it dealing with cinema.
On the subject of cinema I've read:
Andre Bazin - What Is Cinema? - Volumes I and II
Sergei Eisenstein - Film Form and The Film Sense
On a broader sense I'm starting to read:
Umberto Eco - Art and Beauty in the Middle Ages
John Dewey - Art as Experience
Erich Auerbach - Mimesis: The Representation of Reality in Western Literature
I'm really not interested in film history stuff, rather criticisms regarding its execution.
I would greatly appreciate it if anyone here could recommend some new titles either on the subject of cinema or art in general. Authors, keywords, search strings, etc I might not have thought of would also be appreciated. Even other works by the authors above I might not have thought of (Eco, Dewey).
Thanks in advance.
