'Alexander Revisited: The Unrated Final Cut' (also on HD-DVD)

Quote:
Warner Home Video has announced 'Alexander Revisited: The Unrated Final Cut' will be available on DVD February 27, with both HD-DVD and Blu-ray versions following sometime later in the year.

The new cut adds 45 minutes of filler and explicit material to the theatrical version. Jeffrey Baker, Warner senior VP and general manager of theatrical catalog, commented to VideoBusiness.com, "Most director’s cuts and special editions are typically two to 10 minutes longer, and here we have [an extra] 45 minutes. Oliver really wanted to show the viewer what these battle scenes were really like, and the extended scenes of the battles give you the realism and sheer horror of them. There are [also] salacious scenes, heterosexual and homosexual, which tell quite a different version of the story than what we saw in theaters

edit: oops!! my bad! I just re-read my own linked quote here and now I see that 'Alexander' on hi-def won't be day and date with the DVD, but will arrive later in 2007. sorry for any confusion.

'Marie Antoinette'

Quote:
Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has announced 'Marie Antoinette' starring Kirsten Dunst, Jason Schwartzman, Judy Davis, Rose Byrne and Asia Argento will be available February 13 on Blu-ray Disc with an SRP of $38.96, day-and-date with the film's DVD debut.

'Marie Antoinette' will be presented in 1.85:1 1080p video and PCM 5.1 audio. No extra features have been announced as-of-yet but should be identical to those found on the standard DVD, when announced.

I love ALEXANDER, and Kevin Smith told me that when he was shooting CLERKS II with Rosario Dawson, she told him the film Stone actually shot was "completely different" than either the theatrical release, or the later "Director's Cut" DVD, and that there was TONS of material missing from both versions. I'm very interested in seeing this epic edit, which should contain that material...

I said the same thing over in the SD thread before but I'm interested in seeing Stone's version where he has no worries about the running time or deadlines and can (re)make the version he wants. I think Alexander is a great movie and in a few years people will reevaluate their opinions and view it as one of Stone's best movies.

Come to think of it, it would be cheaper to buy the soundtrack. Sorry guys, I found this movie unwatchable.

Is Alexander actually coming out in February? From this report, it appears that it won't be out on BD or HD DVD until sometime later next year.

You're correct. 'Alexander' will not be day and date with the DVD. I previously updated my original post to reflect this as I misread the release notification the first time. If an admin would like to update the subject heading please do so by all means.

Wow. the director's cut was among the most endurance-testing movies I've ever sat through (and watching Queer As Folk has desensitized me to much of the homosexual content that appearently causes mid-westerners to spontaniously burrst into flames). Is there any way adding 45 minutes could make this movie seem shorter?

I'm having nightmare scenarios of Solaris's "endless car ride". Except it'll be on horseback. Or maybe elephants.
"Did you know that more people are murdered at 92 degrees Fahrenheit than any other temperature? I read an article once. Lower temperatures, people are easy-going, over 92 and it's too hot to move, but just 92, people get irritable."
