A quick question from the "completist elitist":
wink.gif

I just received Twilight Zone Vol. 42. I seem to recall a discussion with the Grandaddy of Movies, Robert "Crawdaddy" Crawford where he informed me that TZ#42 would complete the set.
Are all the episdoes of the original series found in Volumes 1-42? (I also have the two Panasonic "Treasures of TZ" compiliations but I think these are duplicates, right?)
I know that some of you out there are TZ chronicleers and that you can provide me with this information. Let's just say that it's a little difficult to glean any information from the inserts found in the TZ DVD cases.

(Don't even look - there aren't any.) Talk about "plain" packaging!

Steve,
Are they planned for release (Volume 43?) or are they somehow lost? And, if you know, which episodes are missing?
Thanks.

I am not sure what the third episode is, but the other missing ones are "A World of His Own" (the only episode featuring Rod Serling as a character in the story) and "A Thing about Machines". There is only one duplication in the series 1-42 of the 6 episodes on Treasures and More Treasures ("The Encounter"). All of the one hour episodes from season 4 are included in the 1-42 series. Hopefully they will release the last disc soon so I can complete my set.

Robert,
Their is actually 2 episodes missing. "A thing about machines" and "A world of his own". Their was a Desilu playhouse episode called "The time element", which people call the original pilot. I contact the guy at Image who handles the twilight zone. He was not aware of the missing episodes. I recently spoke to him and they will be released. As of now nothing concrete about what will be on the disc or when it will be released. He said he will let me know when. Hope this helps.

Volume 43 is due in either April or May, according to my sources at Image Entertainment.

And, I guess, that completes the set, right?
Thanks for all the information, gang.

RAF,

As others have stated, Image thought all the episodes were captured on dvd before it was brought to their attention about two missing episodes. I hope Daniel is right about Volume 43 being released in April because that will complete the set for me. I will order that dvd which means I will have all 45 dvds which includes The Treasures and More Treasures dvds.

Now only if the original "Outer Limits" can be release on dvd.
There is nothing wrong with your television set.....

To borrow from another thread, this problem would have been avoided if Image released chronological season box sets...

Well, it's a question of love, isn't it? I have all 42 volumes, plus the two "Treasures of the Twilight Zone" volumes, plus the Rod Serling documentary DVD. It's my all-time favorite TV series, so I bought them all. Sure, season boxes would have been better, but keep in mind that Image started releasing these volumes over two years ago, well before season sets were proven to be a viable concept.
Based on my sources, by the way, volume 43 will be released on April 10, and will include the two missing episodes ("A World of His Own" and "A Thing About Machines"). What ELSE will be present hasn't yet been revealed, but the latest rumor involves the colorized version of the hour-long episode "Miniature". Personally, I hope this is NOT the case....

Then Curiosity got the better of this cat so I took some time today (retired people can do that on a moment's notice
icon14.gif
) to cross-reference everything in my TZ collection.
As others have stated, the only two of the 156 episodes missing are
Episode #36: A World of His Own (1-July-60)
Episode #40: A Thing About Machines (28-Oct-60)
For some reason, as was stated, Episode #151, "The Encounter, 1-May-64 appears both on Volume #33 and on the More Treasures of the Twilight Zone DVD. That's it for duplications. And Episode #1: Where is Everybody? 2-Oct-59 Appears on the original Treasures of the Twilight Zone DVD, although its episode # is not stated. (They do tell you it's the premiere episode, though.)
And the upcoming Volume #43? [*]Will it only contain the two missing TZ episodes?[*]Will it include the "Desilu" Episode?[*]Will it contain some additional supplementary materials?
I guess we wait and see.
BTW, While I agree that it would have made more sense for a chronological release of these episodes there does appear that there were some attempts to organize things. First they were doing "theme" discs (like the one with all the airplane episodes). Later on, they obviously decided to release the 1 hour episodes from 1963 on discs that also contained 2 shorter episodes for other seasons. And the later volumes do try to tie thing up with a little bit of numerical order where possible.
If you are curious about where some of this fits I'm including the data below. Sorry about the formatting but this BBS is not too friendly with spreadsheet imports. But I think you can make out the patterns. From left to right:[*]The Episode Number[*]The Original Air Date[*]The Volume # of the DVD the episode is on (or "Treasures" or "More Treasures)"[*]The Title[*]Notes (if it is a 1 hour episode)

Thanks, Crawdaddy and Jan.
BTW, if any of you want the original Excel (2000) spreadsheet that contains this information, instead of having to re-format it from the way that the BBS software handles imports, just e-mail me and I'll attach the file (only 31K) to a reply.
No biggie.
Take care.

And since this thread has risen from the dead, let me just point out that the release date for volume 43 is currently sometime in June.... are four-letter words allowed here?
