We are almost 2 months away from the release of
Windows Vista. PCWORLD.COM has just posted a FAQ
that should be helpful for anyone contemplating purchasing
any incarnation of the new operating system on January 30.

I figured I would start a poll to see how many people would
be buying VISTA immediately, and what version they plan to
purchase.

Of course, as of this posting date prices on the various versions
have not been finalized, but to give you an idea of what to expect,
the estimated price for the Ultimate Version is $399
while the upgrade version will probably be $100 less. These are
ESTIMATED prices.

As we get closer to release date watch this thread for numerous
developments including final pricing information.

I don't plan on upgrading right away....but I'm not "sorry" about it : )

XP seems to run fine. No problems.

I'm thinking about building a new computer at some point in the near future and I'll probably go with Vista then but I'll keep XP on my current computers.

None of my 3 computers meet the minimum requirements. They all work fine for what we use them for. The only way I would upgrade is when I get a new system & I have no reason to do that now.

I voted for no immediate plans but I will probably upgrade within a couple months of the release. Luckily, I have a friend that works at Microsoft so it shouldn't be too costly.

For my personal home computer the answer is no upgrade.
For one of my work computers I will upgrade right away so I voted that I would be upgrading.

Sorry, guess you guys didn't like the word sorry in the poll! ;)

In any event, I plan to buy the Ultimate Upgrade the day
of release and plan to be frustrated by things that no longer work
after the installation is done. :)

Oh, the woes of being an early adopter!

If I can get my hands on a copy of Windows Vista Home Premium Edition I'm installing it on a new hard drive for my computer! :D

If and when I do get Vista, I'll be getting home premium. Gotta have that bloated but purdy Aero interface. I'm a sucker for a pretty interface.

Anyway, although I have more than enough horsepower to run Vista, I have too many resource-hungry DirectX 9 games. Maybe in a year I'll think about it.

I've been running Vista Ultimate for the last few months. But when the release comes, I'll probably just get the Premium edition. I get a free upgrade on my wife's new notebook to Premium, so I can compare Premium on her notebook to Ultimate (RC2) on my desktop before I completely decide which version for my desktop.

One of the perks of attending grad school is free University software. The school where I am attending will be rolling out Vista business and I will grab a copy at that time. I will probably only upgrade one of my computers as the others are getting a bit long in the tooth and just barely meet the minimum requirements.

Hi, I will be Holding onto XP Pro for a While. I did the Test to see if my Computer will run Vista it Passed on ALL, But the thing was some of My Programs didn't like McAfee Virus, Power DVD 6 and a Few other Titles I do NOT wanna Part with or Feel like Upgrading $$ :frowning:

Plus I will wait till at least the First Service pack for Vista, by then most of the Bugs should be ironed out.

I doubt I ever will unless it's forced upon me in some way. More hardware and overhead to do the same job XP does. It's only the OS, it's only there to let you do your work. The apps are what matters.

I said the same thing about moving from Win2K to WinXP, but in the end some of the conveniences in how the XP shell handles folders full of pictures won me over. Besides, I'm a sucker for a pretty interface.

I'll take the "wait and see" approach, perhaps for a year unless I hear otherwise from a friend of mine who works in IT or from you guys here on the Forum.

The company I work for will probably not roll out Vista until the SP1 release.

As for me, I'll wait until it's time to purchase a new computer and/or laptop. (Probably around July 2007). The only way I can trust an OS upgrade of this magnitude is if it's pre-loaded on a PC that's built from the ground up to accommodate it!!
