HDMI pic quality up to Component?

Hi, i'd read that when the Toshiba's first came out, the HDMI pic quality was lacking. Did the firmware upgrade correct this? Is the pic quality comparable to component now? I just find it very easy and convenient to just have the one cord to plug in.

i love the PQ of the HDMI connection....i tried the component and thought it looked washed out....and the sound was much better thru HDMI for me as well.....

If I recall correctly, Toshiba issued a firmware update that fixes the clipping of BTB and Peak White levels over HDMI. But I'm not sure if the old firmware did PC-level expansion in RGB mode either. I don't own an HD-A1 (yet).

I stille like component a little better for HD-DVD's after 1.4 . I like HDMI for DVD's though,
