I don't know why everyone's complaining about the series and about the packaging for Season 1. It's a terrific marketing gimmick.

By "gimmick" you mean "lie"? Yeah, people who end up buying that not knowing what season Carmen Electra was in will be pretty surprised to find her nowhere in there... or half of the other people on that box. It might be a good marketing gimmick to put a picture of Tom Hanks on everything... doesn't mean it's right.

Like the "Collection" subtitle, I doubt that art is final. I would HOPE it isn't final.

We're finally getting the series on DVD and I love the theme song that they used for the syndicated episodes. That's the theme song that everyone associates with the series, not the Peter Cetera song.

Was someone asking for them to change the theme song? And it isn't the theme song "everyone" associates with the entire series. I can tell you if the Peter Cetera theme isn't on these season 1 episodes, I'm not going to be happy.

Damned straight it's a wonderful marketing gimmick. Look at the long view guys. Fans buy Seasons 2-9 and they're getting Season 1 for free. Baywatch Season 1 for free? Who's going to argue with that and this series is definately sure to sell like wildfire as I have plans on buying every set that is released.

Plus, it's the same gimmick they used for syndication as well.

Have they announced extras for the box sets? I would love for audio commentary tracks to accompany certain episodes, notably Alexandra Paul talking about "Homecoming" and "Strangers Among Us", and Pamela Anderson reacting to "Dead of Summer". I think the first of those was actually in season four, and the two latter ones in season three, but I may be mistaken. Also, one release I would most look forward to is "Baywatch Nights", because it took "guilty pleasure" to a new level.

As Dave and Gord have said on their site, no extras are known as of yet. DOn't expect any news until sometime in July or August.

well, everyone acts like it's a good deal, but come on, this is Baywatch, not Seinfeld. The majority of people I know tuned out of the show after Pamela Anderson left, plus IIRC, didn't even Hasselhoff leave after so many seasons and it still went on?

Baywatch was a wildly popular show in the 90's, but it's not exactly a show that people feel compelled to own the entire series of

Nope, Hasselhoff left after Season 10 to go with Baywatch Nights, I believe. The sets will still be purchased by legions of fans who don't have access to the internet and many will buy these sets just have the show in their library.

excellent. This show got me through highschool and provided me and my buds with some great laughs during latenight college drinking sessions. I don't know if I would buy the dvds because I am currently recording the airings from SPIKE with my DVR.

What I thought you were referring to by "marketing gimmick" was the package art that had people pictured who weren't part of the shows contained in the package.

Not that I love the "free season one" gimmick, either, although it will work on me. So, in that regard, I guess it is a good idea. Normally, I probably would not have bought all 9 seasons. But, since season one is my favorite, I'll end up getting them. Season one is gonna end up costing me quite alot...

I'm waiting to hear back from some people about this, but the rights to some of the episodes are owned by Lionsgate, not Fremantle Media (who licensed the show to First Look).

The missing eps are the ones previously released on DVD by Artisan/Pioneer. That's a huge blow to these releases. They are actually missing the first episode from syndication and the episode that introduces Pamela Anderson. Wow.

I'm still getting them since I already have the missing eps on DVD...

More bad news - the music has been replaced, including the theme song.

At least the sets are cheap.........(and there's enough time to cancel any orders)

Gord: thanks for the news... sets may be cheap but i think it is safe to say no theme song, music replaced, missing episodes makes these sets 100% worthless. Nobody should buy them!!

Excuse me.....WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAT? One thing to take an episode out, but to take the THEME SONG out too? Forget it. I’ve been waiting and looking so forward to this, but ya know what, OFF the list. Wont be touching this now. All I can say is, by the time Gena Neely Nolin’s Seasons come out, I better see a theme song or I will be Baywatch-less. What a disappointment, ruined and yea, worthless.

Ridiculous. A show that is built around 2-3 musical montages per episode replacing the music... The music is just as important here as it was with Miami Vice (maybe not as good... but just as important to the show).

But, the lack of the theme song is a crime. I'll be shocked if any of this is mentioned on the packaging. I'll bet many people will be in for a surprise...

And if they couldn't get the Jim Jameson theme song, I guess any dreams of the original Peter Cetera theme song being included are out the window.
